Officially living the dream in rainy, rainy central Indiana before heading out to entirely non-rainy Afghanistan.
wyldewolfe:
stay as safe as you can
adrastea:
Afghanistan is just freezing and snowing right now from what I hear. And thanks for the comment, I passed the test. smile Deployments definitely suck though...for both parties.

Forty-eight hours until I deploy and the heat goes out in my place. Rains it pours and all that.

First trip to Denali National Park this past weekend, after my better half won the road lottery for Saturday (they only let people drive their own cars on the road through the park one weekend out of the year, otherwise you have to take a tour bus).

Weather was horrible for seeing the mountain (overcast and rain), which stayed hidden behind clouds all day, but...

Post-surgery, post-crutches walking isn't too bad, really, which I suppose is a good sign. Hopefully, the grinding sensation and pain will go away when I bend my knee too far, as the alternative (more, much more invasive, surgery) doesn't seem terribly appealing.

More entertaining, for a certain sort of personality (such as mine) is my recent acquisition of my own personal hand cannon in the...

Yeah -- .44 is not really my thing, per se, but up here in the great white north (and in fishing season to boot), it seemed like the path of least resistance for a big caliber bear gun. With bears, kind of like going to a gun fight, though, I'm more taken with the whole "bring a long gun" school of thought whenever possible.

Knee surgery next week. Not looking forward to it, but maybe it will fix the problem(s). Going to kind of suck spending most of my first Alaskan summer on crutches, though.

A happy birthday and many more.
Better crutchs than a wheelchair, of course
with some screening on them they should work as
flyswatters for those Alaskan Mosquitos. tongue

For those with an eye to learning from others' mistakes, allow me to advocate never smashing up the meniscus and rupturing bursa in your knee. I'm going on six weeks since I tweaked my knee pretty good, and I've still got fluid on the knee and, while I mostly have good days, I'm one or two bad movements (lunges, squats, that sort of thing) away...

Made it to Alaska in one piece, thoroughly enjoyed the drive up (again) -- though doing the whole trip (over 4000 miles) in five and half days was a bit grueling. Only really sporty day was 17 hours of driving from Ft. Nelson (Yukon Territory, I think) all the way to the border and on to Tok, Alaska. Weather wasn't too bad -- there was...
