I really need to start taking my camera with me more often, everything I want to talk about here would be better with pictures!

Lollapalooza was a really good time. Got to see a lot of bands I really like (Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, Juliette and the Licks, LCD Soundsystem, Blonde Redhead, Interpol), bands I had never seen live (Heartless Bastards, Femi Kuti, Hold Steady, Regina...

so after playing it, have you determined which is the better system?
apexxx:
oh yeah the offense will be pretty to watch! did you ever think that the Bears offense could outshine the defense... especially when the defense is one of the top 3 or 5 in the league eeek

we will need to get together and watch a few games this year...

Bleh, that's how I feel at the moment. There was a screw up at work, which translates to me working all night. Let's hope I can still make it to Holiday tomorrow, but we'll see how I feel after another 17 straight workhours. Too boring. frown

Feeling really good lately. My recovery was no problem and things are back to normal. Thanks folks for all your support. smile

In other news, I just bought a loft in Bucktown, very exciting as it'll be my first time owning as opposed to renting. It's a sweet place and only about a half a block from my last apartment. I love the neighborhood. Now I...

Well, my week of glory did not get ruined by any means, but it was tempered somewhat. Monday, I got a serious throat infection that, within two hours had me choking on my own uvula. That stuck me in the ICU for two days as a precaution until they finally had the infection under control. Let me tell ya, the ICU is boring as hell,...

And like magic, here's an article in the Guardian that talks a bit about PSV's academy, but more about how overly-rigid youth coaching hurts players' development:

linky linky

You know, I blame Protestantism. Seriously.

Fun and play are hard-wired into human beings as *fast-track learning mechanisms*. The best learning we ever do our whole lives is in the spirit of play, but some of these youth coaches don't let the little guys have fun, because as all Protestants know, you can't ever get anywhere except through hard work. Dull, monotonous, bleak, black-wearing hard-work.

And, not surpisingly, the players who come up through that system turn out to be dull, uninspiring footballers who you can really count on to not take too many risks, but . . . that's it. What you give up is all the devil-may-care technical fluidity and sublime moments that Adu provided against Poland and Brazil.

Well, this week was insanely busy at work, which only makes me feel all that much better that I got through it. I only got about a total of 12 hours sleep over a 5 day period, but had a chance to catch up a bit this weekend.

I started an exercise class over the weekend which works on "core" strength, which is mainly abs,...

The fimling was pretty cool. My brother is a property manager for the one the garages they're filiming in.
It was a closed set and the people in charge of the filiming location let us in.
They gave us a tour and all before we chilled and watched a scene being filmed. ( 5 lines and 15 takes in an hour and a half..lol)
It's funny how big dude looks in that bat suit in person. biggrin
I guess we missed the batmobile crashing through a fake wall scene. frown

I wanted to steal the batmobile sooooo bad. biggrin

No pictures..didn't want to get my brother fired or anything.

Great win for the national team! What was the game like from your seat?

From the couch, it looked like we were a little outplayed in the 1st half, but deserved the win.

Some of our finishing (or lack thereof) is shocking, though.

Waiting, waiting, waiting... seems like that is the story of my life (but I'm sure I'm not alone in that). Everything has been really good lately, almost too good. If I make it through the next few weeks my life is going to change in ways I honestly can't imagine, almost all of them for the better. Anytime you gain the ability to say "fuck...

As many of you who know me well already know, I've been running quite a bit lately to lose some weight and be healthier. This morning I ran my first competive "race" of any kind, EVER. The weather was perfect, no wind, 60-65 degrees. The scenery was beautiful (it was on the lakefront from Fullerton to Bryn Mawr). I did really well, WAY better than...

Finally, I am getting off my lazy ass and will now post some details of my time in Syria and Lebanon.

My first day was spent in London, as I had a 8.5 hour layover. I went to British Museum to check out many of the pillaged treasures they've collected like the Rosetta Stone, the friezes from the Parthenon, and loads of amazing Egyptian and...
