Well, my week of glory did not get ruined by any means, but it was tempered somewhat. Monday, I got a serious throat infection that, within two hours had me choking on my own uvula. That stuck me in the ICU for two days as a precaution until they finally had the infection under control. Let me tell ya, the ICU is boring as hell, I did have a TV, but was hooked up to a heart monitor, an IV, a blood pressure sleeve, etc. so wasn't too mobile or comfortable. Eating only jello, juice, tea and broth for 2 days sucks pretty hard as well. At least I found out that my running is paying off, my heart rate and BP were really good, in fact my resting heart rate is so low that I kept setting the alarms off for no reason.
BUT, at least I got out at noon on Wednesday and was there for the closing of my business deal, which went off without a hitch so I really can't complain about the rest. They still don't actually know what caused the infection, but it looks like it's well under control. Back to real life, and real work.

You know, I blame Protestantism. Seriously.
Fun and play are hard-wired into human beings as *fast-track learning mechanisms*. The best learning we ever do our whole lives is in the spirit of play, but some of these youth coaches don't let the little guys have fun, because as all Protestants know, you can't ever get anywhere except through hard work. Dull, monotonous, bleak, black-wearing hard-work.
And, not surpisingly, the players who come up through that system turn out to be dull, uninspiring footballers who you can really count on to not take too many risks, but . . . that's it. What you give up is all the devil-may-care technical fluidity and sublime moments that Adu provided against Poland and Brazil.
