Well, I'd familiarize myself with a lot of chick-lit sort of books that are out there (I'm using it in a broad term.... fiction with a strong narrative voice of a young 20-30something female probably involving a love interest). Mostly what makes for a killer sale these days is a really high concept premise. At this point you really just need to focus on the writing, get the MS in a shape you are really proud of, join a writers group if possible for constant feedback. You'll probably want an agent eventually but you need to have the complete MS done first.
