Intro
Hello there creatures of the night, welcome to my Halloween Horror Movie Challenge this year. Where I'll be reviewing films I watched and even share one or two favourite SG sets for yous to support. Cause I need to support my favourite SG model/photographers. It won't be a KungFury blog without it lol.
So if yous have been following me on my Instagram. You know I was doing this horror film challenge. My good friend and SGUK Hopeful @missjcristina & I were doing this in our Instagram stories. It was her idea. Since as most people know, I wasn't doing well mentally. So she wanted to help and knows I love Halloween & horror films. I also did a Halloween Watchlist last year. Which yous can check it out By Clicking Here
It was nice of her to suggest it and I'm grateful she did. So thank you @missjcristina and please SGHQ, turn her pink!!
Also I remember last year @sammiii was doing this on her Instagram story and wanted to do the same. Luckily it came at the right time. Especially for me & Cristina. With me needing to keep my chin up cause of depression and Cristina needed something to do since she is recovering from knee surgery. So this Horror Movie Challenge was a blessing in disguise.
Also it was cool talking horror films with ppl on Instagram. It's good mixing it up, rather me talking about alt models and mental health all the time. Since I feel I go on about mental health too much. Feel like I'm shoving it down people's throats and that you know. Even though I do want to talk about mental health but not too much you know. It's trying to find that right balance isn't it. Luckily I'm toning it down and just get back to my roots. Moving on and back to do what I do best. Creating blogs that entertain yous peeps and supporting my favourite Alt Models.
So let's talk about horror films I've watched. And what I think of them.
KungFury's Horror Film Reviews
(My ratings are 5 out of 5 btw. 5 means one of the best of all time, 4 means it's very good, 3 is flawed but still worth a watch, 2 is not really good and 1 is the film is pure shite lol)
(Also it's spoiler free so don't worry no spoilers here cause I care for my SG/Fury family lol)
Scream 1
I remember (or member if your a South Park fan lol) talking about how much I love the scream movies in last year's watchlist blog. So I won't be talking too much about it. Let's just say that it is awesome. One of my favourite's, also it's @hex favourite film too. Still yet to see Scream 4. Need to before the next one. Which I can't fuckin wait lol. Love it. 4/5
The Descent
So happy to rewatch this film again. Always enjoyed this film about a group of girlfriends going in a cave cause their extreme. No literary their all about living life to the max. My kind of people lol. Basically their adrenaline junkies, like myself back in my youth. Even though I still have a bit of that in me. So it's basically an all female vacation, exploring the caves and all that. But shit gets real. Yeah it's an awesome film. Although the ending doesn't make sense imo. Thought it was a bit of a weak ending. But I do think it's a damn good film. Give it a watch, still on Netflix!! 4/5
Sinister
So this is my first time watching this flick here and it was really good. Starring Ethan Hawke, who is usually good in films. Always think he was underrated. He has been a lot of good films like Training Day, Gattaca (Underrated film), etc. So I was interested in this film and I enjoyed it. Maybe not the most original or scariest film out there. But it was a very good film. Definitely add this in my blu ray collection and watch the sequel. Only things I don't like is the horror bits in the film. Cause it was very predictable and you can see the jump scares a mile away. I actually love the film when it was more of a thriller you know. Like I actually think it should've been a good psychological thriller imo. The horror bits felt forced and clichéd. But overall the film is good and I liked it. 3/5
Hush
Mike Flanagan is one of my favourite filmmakers working today. Never makes any bad films or shows. Still need to watch Midnight Mass on Netflix. Kept meaning to, along with Squid Game (Cause people can't shut up about it lol). So it's cool to watch one of his films in this Horror Movie Challenge. Why not this classic. This is a really awesome film. Stars Kate Siegel as a deaf/mute woman and she lives alone. Everything is peaceful til a psycho appears and makes her night a living hell, trying to kill her and all. So this a home invasion film. But I love how well pace, acted and thrilling it was. Like you want her to escape from this psycho. So awesome. Also love the atmosphere in this film. I don't know, I find it pretty relaxing in a weird way. Maybe cause I want to live in the middle of nowhere & it's peaceful. Not hearing drunken chavs and Karens shouting their heads off like where I live now. Not fun folks, wish I living in the woods like in this film. Hopefully no psycho killers haha. But yeah this is such an awesome flick. Definitely a must watch! 5/5
The Cabin In The Woods
This one is brilliant and a pure love letter to horror films in the past. It mocks but praises the horror films of the past. It's a solid film. It's got some good humour and awesome acting. But I love how smart it is and it's very self aware. Co Written & Directed by Drew Goddard, who made Cloverfield. Which is an awesome film that I saw in the cinema back in the day and I was watching it with my support worker at the time. And he was sick from motion sickness. Due to it being found footage and the shaky cam lol. I was ok, I'm actually quite good with that lol. But yeah this is an great film. Top notch. I recommend it! 4/5
Hellraiser
Ok I'm going to admit this. I was mostly laughing my ass off watching this film. I actually think this is an unintentional comedy most of the time. Like the hammy acting, especially from the fellas in the film. I was laughing lol. I do think the physical effects were neat and cool. Theirs definitely effect in this film and the story is there. I think cause it was working on a budget, most things in the film is pretty dated nowadays. I think a remake of Hellraiser is needed imo. I think it can work. I do think Clive Barker is a talented storyteller for horror. I do see it here but most things in the film, I was mostly laughing. But I do think it is a decent film. I don't get scared easily when it comes to horror films. So that's why I mostly laughed lol. But this film has a lot of awesome ideas and love Hellraiser getting remade. Maybe it's just me lol. 3/5
Alien
Well here's a classic and it's @missjcristina favourite film.....nah I'm kidding she hates it lol. But I love it. Grew up watching Alien and Aliens (I prefer Aliens tbh). Yeah it still holds up, very good and very intense. I will say however that it is slow and doesn't pick up the pace til later. I don't mind it, builds up the intensity imo. That's why I love it, it builds and delivers. Still a classic and a must watch. 4/5
Psycho
Talking about building up intension, here we got this classic from Hitchcock. Yes I do consider it a horror since it's psychological. Since it's really all about the characters, especially this movie. I mean I won't say much. Since like I said. I don't want to give away for anyone who hasn't seen the films in this blog. That's why I'm brief with them. It's not one of my FSS, Appreciation, Hopeful Highlights, etc blogs since I can talk about the models & photographers. All that jazz. Here I really don't want to give much away. Especially for films like Psycho. Cause yous have to see it to believe. It's a true classic. I know saying an old film is a classic but with this film, it is. A must watch imo! 5/5
The Babadook
This Australian film is maybe the modern day Psycho imo. This is another film yous have to watch. This one is terrifying. This one did got under my skin and really touched me. Since it deals with topics like mental health, depression and behavioural problems (Which I experience as a kid). I won't say anymore. I'm sorry I'm not revealing anything but yous have to see it. Trust me, this is an excellent film. Easily one of my favourites I've watched in this blog. 5/5
Paranormal Activity
Btw I hate that tagline "Don't see it alone". I member or remember when this was soooo hyped and no one can shut the fuck up about it. Saying it is the scariest film ever...it's not. Do I think it's crap? no. It's actually alright. I do think it's not a bad movie but it does get too dull in bits. Like most of the time it was just the couple talking and just sleeping. If I want to see a man & a women sleeping, I'll go back to fansly/onlyfans/manyvids/pocketstars/etc haha. Like it gets a bit too dull and it's really not scary at all. I do think Paranormal Activity is overrated. But it's not awful but it's not good either. It's just meh ok. 2/5
[Rec]
Now this is way better than Paranormal Activity. This is probably one of my favourite found footage films out there. It's a Spanish zombie flick and it's a damn good one. Love how it never slows down and something is always happening. Pretty intense, like in Cloverfield. But this is with zombies and I love my zombies. So this is a winner for me, definitely need to get this on Blu Ray. Keep forgetting to lol. 5/5
Lake Mungo
No Paranormal Activity, this is the film you don't want to watch alone. This is imo the scariest film ever made and also the most underrated horror film ever. This is Lake Mungo. It's another Australian horror film like Babadook above. Seriously Australia, yous are fucking good with your horror films like you are on SG. Shoutout to my favourite aussies @sookysins @diamant @akiramai @arachnie @blink @evoke @atlanticlungs @mariajupiter @sirenn @bronsonquick @basseshigh @loulux @missnickers @coolicio @milkydame etc. I need to discover horror films from down under haha. But yeah this one really got me scared this film. If I'm saying that peeps, then it is. It's another found footage film but it's set up like it's a documentary. In the film it's about this family of this dead girl Alice and about their grief. Don't worry it isn't a spoiler. Basically it's a ghost film and again I'm leaving it there. All I would say, this is how you do horror and it's easily one of my favourite films of all time. A masterpiece and it's so scary. I had to sleep with the light on after watching it cause i was creeped out. No joke haha. This film will make you shit your pants, trust me. I dare you to watch it mwhahaha lo jk. 😂😉 5/5
Ghostwatch
I think everyone in the UK like me will know this one. This is a TV special from the BBC back in 1992 or 1993 I can't remember. But yeah this got the nation scared and a bit pissed off haha. It's really a fascinating story of the aftermath of this TV special. But I consider it a film. Bare in mind when yous are going to watch this. This is setup to me like a actual news show about ghosts that's live (Even though it's not). Like those Haunted House shows, etc. But bear with it. It gets good and shit goes down. It's worth it. They actually use actual UK tv presenters in this, not actors. Making this realistic. It is good and worth a watch. If yous can find it, give it a watch. It'll be hard to find but if yous find it. Watch it. 4/5
The Others
I love this film, definitely a film to watch. It's another ghost film and it is awesome. Love the atmosphere in the film. Set in the 1940's and definitely has this gothic feel about it. I won't go into details about the film. Cause trust me, best not knowing anything about the film. You'll enjoy films better that way I feel. So much of the internet love to be pricks and spoil films for yous peeps but I'm here, got your back lol. But it is an awesome film, check it out and it's easily my favourite Nicole Kidman film. Also this is @missjcristina REAL favourite film, not alien. That was a joke haha. 5/5
The Woman In Black
I know I am giving good reviews a lot here. Except for Paranormal Activity but still kind to it in a way lol. But I hate bashing things you know. I try to keep a positive attitude and all that. But sometimes you just have to say what you don't like. And I didn't really like this film I'm afraid. It is so boring and predictable. It's a pure jump scare fest and you can see it a mile away. Sure the acting is fine and I actually do love the gothic setting. Reminds me of the old Hammer Horror films, which I wish I watched instead of this one. I'm sorry but I think this film was dull. If yous like it, good for yous. More power to yous. I'm glad yous enjoy it if yous do. Movie opinions, there is no right or wrong. Yous like what you like, just don't be a cunt about it lol. For me this film was boring to me, not for me. I do like Daniel Radcliffe but this is not my favourite film of his. 2/5
The Strangers
Another Home Invasion film and it's a good one. I enjoyed this film, pretty intense. I don't know if it's based of a true story. I do see this a lot in some horror films, saying it is based of a true story. I'm like oh ok sure 🙄....yeah I don't believe in ghost or paranormal activities. I'm always a I'll believe it if I see it with my very own eyes type of guy. The events in the film could be true, who knows but I take the "based on a true story" with a grain of salt. It doesn't matter to me, I just want to watch good films lol. I'm casual like that. And this is a good film. Also Liv Tyler is beautiful as hell, just saying lol. It is an intense film and it was enjoyable. I like it. 4/5
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Again another film "Based on a true story" and again I take it with a grain of salt. I actually saw the remake first, the one with Jessica Biel. Which was years ago and thought it was decent. Never saw the original, so this was my first time watching this. And it was good. Pretty fucked up but good. Even though I hated the main characters tbh, thought they were bland imo. I do think this film, Halloween and Friday the 13th kickstarted the whole slasher genre in horror. Tbh I'm not a Slasher fan since it's always the same old. Gets boring watching films with the same premise over & over again. But if you watch it after a long break, it's good again. And that's how I feel when watching this film. Sure it's not perfect but I did like it. It's decent. 3/5
The Blair Witch Project
The film that started the whole found footage genre. Yeah I saw this film a few times now and it is still pretty good about a three person film crew getting lost. It really is good imo. I think it truly works cause it felt real. Like Ghostwatch, where in that tv film it felt like a live broadcast. In this film, it felt like a indie doc & of course shit goes wrong for the three of them. It is a good film imo. I always enjoyed it. Also avoid Blair Witch 2, unless you want a good laugh on how bad that film was. Stick to the first. Least this one is good but up to yourselves. Like I said Blair Witch 2 is a good laugh. Tbh I watch it a few times too, just cause I like so bad yet so good films lol. But I watch the good films more, luckily lol. Blair Witch Project, good film. 4/5
Ring
Watched the original Ring and it was pretty good. I haven't seen any of the Ring films. So why not at the original first and yeah I like it. Think it's very good, I watch this before the American remake that Naomi Watts starred in. Should be always the case, start with the originals peeps! 4/5
Audition
Another Japanese horror for yous here. This one is truly disturbing. Especially at the last bit in the film. Again no spoilers. Sorry I'm being brief with these reviews, since I don't want to give it away. But I highly recommend it if you have a strong stomach. Luckily I do lol. I will say it is a slow builder but it pays off. It is a good film and makes me glad to be single hahaha. 4/5
House Of 1000 Corpses & The Devil's Rejects
I put these two together since it's Rob Zombie films. Why not cause I do have the same opinion on both films. I have said my opinion about it on my Instagram and a few disagreed. Well I do have unpopular opinions sometimes. Think everyone has an unpopular opinion on something. But usually someone is being a dick about it, going all don't @ me. Like come on lol. I don't do that. I love to hear other people's thoughts. Just don't be a dick about it cause their is no right or wrong. You like what you like and you dislike what you dislike. These two I didn't like much tbh. I do like the settings, the effect and the humour. But I didn't really like the characters or the story or the editing imo. Felt like a mess. There was not much story in the two films and feels like Rob was trying too hard to make these films to be the horror version of Quentin Tarantino films imo. Just felt pretentious to me and couldn't care. Idk, I didn't think they were any good imo. But I know so many love these films and probably want to kill me haha. Look, I'm glad yous enjoyed it. Great, more power to yous. These films weren't for me. Think I'll stick the Rob Zombie's music, which I do like. 2/5 (Both films)
The Purge
Ok before I talk, if your fans of this film. Don't read this. I'm glad yous like it. But I HATED IT haha (imaging me saying it in a comedic way lol). Yeah this the worst film I saw out of this whole Horror Movie Challenge. I do my best to keep it positives as I can but not this movie lol. This was trash, pure fucking trash. Like where would I start? The plot is so full of itself. Trying to so hard to have a message. Fucking hate that, like who agreed to this being a thing. Where one night, you allowed to do every crime. Cause it keeps the crime numbers down or some bullshit like that. Gimme a break, it stupid. Also the kids in this movie, fuck them. They cause so much trouble in this film and the parents are like "eh ok". I mean those two kids are my least favourite characters in any film I saw. Also the villain is laughable, sooo hammy. I would love it if this film wasn't too serious about it's messages & the whole tone in general. Man I hated this film lol. Hate hate hate hated this movie. I'm sorry to fans of this movie but imo this film sucks. 1/5
The Haunting
Phew I needed to get that off my chest in my The Purge review haha. I hope I didn't offend lol. Luckily for me, we got this movie next. It's one of my favourite ghost films of all time. Sure it's in black & white but I love it. The story is great, acting is great, the setting is great and love that it's focus more on the characters. It's psychological and you the intension building up as the film goes on. Yeah you'll see I'm more into slow building psychological horror films. And the original Haunting is one of my all time favourites. A true classic. 5/5
The Shining
HEEEERRRRREE's Fury..I should use that as my title in my next FSS blog haha (PS it will return!). Yes it's this all time classic. I never get sick of watching this film. One of my all time favourites. It's probably my favourite horror film along with The Exorcist, Lake Mungo (Check Above), etc. Never gets old. I think we know my rating I'll give it. Go watch if yous haven't. 5/5
The Faculty
First time watching this. Kept hearing about this but never watched it. I saw Chris Struckman talking about it on Youtube. He's one of my favourite Youtubers btw, does movie reviews on there. Love his videos. So I thought to include this. And I enjoyed it. It's basically the teen version of The Invasion Of The Body Snatchers for us 90's kids lol. Think I was 8 when it came out. Such a great film. Check it out. 4/5
Event Horizon
Now I know this is directed by my least favourite director ever Paul Anderson (He directed the Resi films which I hate since I'm big fanboy of the video games). But he did direct good films at one time. Like the first Mortal Kombat film, I thought was decent. But he directed this gem. I grew up with this film, it was one of my first horror films I watched. Around that time I was big into System Shock 2. Which is one of my favourite video games growing up. So this film is nostalgia for me. I have a soft spot for it. It maybe not the best film and the CGI is very dated here. But I still think it is a good Sci Fi Horror film. Alien is the better film but this is good too. Do check it out. 4/5
Dawn Of The Dead
This is the first time I saw the original. Always love the remake from Zack Snyder, think that one is great btw. But for some reason I never saw the original. Crazy I know so I did. Loved it too. It maybe a bit dated but it is a solid zombie flick and this is how it all started tbh. On amazon prime there was so many versions of this film. I didn't know where to start tbh. Had to look it up which was the best version. George himself said the Theatrical version is the best so I went with that lol. It was quite confusing picking one. But either way, this is a classic zombie flick that started it all. 4/5
The Evil Dead
Another classic here. I just love The Evil Dead. All of them. Ash is the man. This film still holds up and the visual effects still hold up. It is really good stuff. So ahead of it's time. So awesome that this film was shot in a low budget too. So awesome and yeah it is a great film. All Evil Dead films are! 4/5
The Witch
This is a film that requires multiple watches but it is an awesome film imo. Another one that's psychological, their always the best imo. I don't want to say more cause I want people to see it with no information about it. It is a must watch imo. 5/5
A Nightmare On Elm Street
Another classic here and yeah it's another very good film. I enjoy all of Wes Craven's work tbh. God rest his soul. He really knew how to make a damn good horror film. Scream, this, The Hill Have Eyes and even great thrillers like Red Eye (I recommend that film, so good). This is one of his best and also an early role from Johnny Depp too. Who would knew eh lol. Yeah I enjoyed this and it was great rewatching it again. Freddy is da man. 4/5
Insidious
This film imo is a comedy, I'm sorry but this is another film that I laughed a lot. Especially at this scene...
Idk why but I lmao lol. So funny. There's a lot of scenes I couldn't take seriously at all. This film is pretty much a rip off from another good horror film. Which is Poltergeist. But I think it is trying way too hard that imo it becomes a comedy. Not the best film but I won't lie that I didn't enjoy it. For the wrong reasons lol. I do admit there is one scare in the film that was good but rest was too silly. But thank god haha. Ever since I can't get that damn Tiny Tim song out of my head lol. Entertainingly bad film imo! 3/5
30 Days Of Night
I talk about how Lake Mungo is underrated above. This is another underrated film. Imo one of the best vampire films out there. Stars Josh Hartnett, who himself is underrated. I don't know why he isn't in many films now. I thought he is great in this, also in The Faculty above. He is also in another awesome film that is massively underrated. Lucky Number Slevin, check that one out peeps. So welcome. But yeah this is such a great vamp flick. Need to check out the graphic novel too. Highly recommend this hidden gem!! 5/5
28 Days Later
Last film in my Horror Movie Challenge Watchlist is probably one of my favourite films of all time. It is in my top ten for sure. This is my favourite zombie film easily. Got a excellent pace, good story, setting is great, acting is great and has one of my favourite film scores ever from John Murphy. Especially this tune. Goosebumps everytime...
I just love this film from start to end. Why not end my Horror Movie Challenge with one of my favourite films ever. Masterpiece imo! 5/5
