Sort of fun thing today: I received a message from a photographer on Model Mayhem about doing a paid calendar shoot. The buzzkill? This is an example of something he chose to share in his portfolio on the site:

He joined MM more than a year ago, and that's among his best pictures? I've done self-shot sets that look better than that, and I'm 100% photography n00b. I'm calling GWC on this. Bummer, it would have been nice to do a paid shoot.
The factory is shut down for a week as of today, and I get paid for most, if not all, of the time off, so needless to say I'll be on SG a lot more frequently in the next ten days than I normally am. Not going to bed at 9pm will make a huge difference there alone. I should use this interim to do some writing, but if I write, I either want to do a post on my blog (warning: too much information contained therein - I'm not joking!!) or work on my book. Both are fine and good, but I have trouble thinking about stuff to write about for the blog, and I'm at a point in the book where I need a hard copy to go over, because there's lots of stuff I want to fix and sort out in my head before I move on, and it's easier with a hard copy, all 75 pages of it. So maybe I'll be heading to the library, as I am sans printer at the mo, and I'll feed some quarters into the machine like an inkjet junkie.
I'm in the mood to purchase stuff again. Normally I'm pretty good about how I spend my money, but sometimes the stars align just right and I keep thinking of things I want. A printer, a new webcam (the current one is very ANGRY right now!) more Alexandre Dumas novels, more kung-fu and Zatoichi movies, a bamboo steamer so's I can make some steamed dumplings and pork buns...

The list goes on. And on. And on! I could make a whole blog post about the things I wish I could buy right now, but I can't because being broke is a constant complaint of mine, and I'm not even sure if I'm getting paid for 20 or 40 hours next week. It's a big difference, so I have to restrain my wilder impulses.
Hunger calls me. I shall return and finish this entry when the potatoes are in the oven! More is to come!
Edit: I are returned!
And can't think of anything else to write about, really. It's almost 100% certain that I'm not going anywhere for a year, so I'll either have to plan a trip to Canada to see rpg or to Denver to shoot with DanielK or something. I think those two areas are within the area of affordable travel distance. But stability is good. It makes me a lot less emotionally fragile.
And for the record, I think it's safe to say that this is the worst shot in my own portfolio:

and that this is the best:

Actually, there are a lot of other pics I could have chosen for the best, as I'm quite proud of them all, but you get the idea.
