KinkyJews NYC Events
What a way to start off the new year for KinkyJews! We had our first event in January, the second one in February and the third is planned for this coming week.
Out first ever event was on Saturday January 28, 2006 and it was a roaring success. Eleven people came to the dinner and about half of us continued on to the after-party.
The dinner was at Sacred Chow. Sacred Chow is one of our friends on Friendster. In an email to us back in December they wrote: "We're kinky Jews. We're kosher and we have Friday night Shabbat events called challah if ya hear me. We're also hot and queer." Another one of our friends from Friendster works there. What better place to hold our first event.
Our minyan plus one was just the right size to be able to get to talk with everyone and get to know each other. It was a great mix of people. We had basically an even split of men and women. There were couples and singles, people in their 20s to people in their early 40s and a variety of experience in the world of kink. Everyone got along great and had a wonderful time. So many people wrote to us afterwards to tell us how much they enjoyed themselves. We talked about Judaism, we talked about kink, we talked about every day stuff and we talked about the future of KinkyJews. The restaurant was cozy and our neighbors at tables near us probably got an earful of some of our interesting conversations, but from their acknowledging smiles, the fact that we were in a vegan restaurant in the Village and as one of them was wearing a shirt that said swinger on it, were pretty sure they were sympathetic if not likeminded.
After a yummy dinner, five of us continued onto the Master Steelow Electra-Glow Party.
Some of us had glowing outfits, some had flashing accessories and yet others came with fetishy outfits.
Well yadda, yadda, yadda over the juicier parts (come to the next event to hear firsthand), but needless to say that each of us that attended got fully into the spirit of the event and enjoyed and made the most of the BDSM/erotic atmosphere.
Over the next few weeks, KinkyJews seemed to know no bounds. Both in terms of numbers and some would say in terms of pushing conventional sensibilities.
After January's successful inaugural KinkyJews NYC event, February plans got into full swing.
The second KinkyJews NYC event took place on Sunday February 26 2006. Twenty three people showed up, more than double the number of people we had the first time around. Of course that meant a lot of new face and opportunities to get to know some really cool folks.
Lunch seemed liked it was going to be a bit more complicated than originally thought. I chose Udipi Palace (http://www.udipipalace.net) because it was both Kosher and vegetarian and conveniently located near the Museum of Sex.
They hadn't set up the tables in a square like we asked for when I made the arrangements and then the guy in charge was giving me a hard time about having everyone individually order what they wanted from the menu. So a bit of negotiation went on and we decided to basically order two of every entre and several starters and rice and everyone would share.
Although some people may have been skeptical, it worked out quite well in the end. The food was great. Everyone got what they wanted, in fact they got to chose several different things which was pretty cool. The food came out pretty quickly and it wasn't too too expensive in the end. But the bottom line was, the restaurant did give us a bit of a hard time.
We again had a nice range of people. College students to grandparents (most people were under 35). Pretty even mix of men and women. People new to kink and those with lots of wisdom to share. From the secular to the modern Orthodox. We truly covered a full spectrum.
After lunch we walked over to the Museum of Sex (http://museumofsex.com).
It is a fairly small museum, but definitely interesting and exciting. It also has a kick-touchas gift shop. There were several special exhibits on display including: "Men without Suits: Objectifying the American Male Body" which was a history of naked men over time;
"Stags, Smokers and Blue Movies: The Origins of American Pornographic Films" -- pornographers leaped on the new technology of film just like they did with the internet -- threeways on film from 100 years ago was pretty amazing stuff to see;
and a "Spotlight on the Permanent Collection".
With that winding down and several folks making purchases at the gift shop we braved the cold gusty winds to walk over to NY's premier fetish store, Purple Passion (http://www.purplepassion.com).
Several folks picked up some new toys and outfits to round out the full day.
With two successful events under our belt now, we're setting the bar even higher for Purim. We're going to stretch out the festivities over two days so hopefully appeal to different people with different tastes and schedules. We are also from here on out narrowing our focus to just kinky Jews in their 20s and 30s.
Here are the details for our Purim events.
The official KinkyJews NYC March Event will be the Sunday March 12th event. Think of the outing on the Monday March 13th as a happy hour meet and mingle before seeing a Purim themed Burlesque show.
PLEASE RSVP IN ADVANCE FOR ANY AND ALL PARTS OF THE PURIM EXTRAVAGANZA through the KinkyJews profile or at kinkyjewishguy@yahoo.com. Book the tickets for the burlesque in advance on your own, but still tell us if you are planning to go so we can tell you how to spot us. If you have any question, use the contact information above as well.
