The sporadic update continues...
No reason why it's been so far and few between. For some reason I found that my time has disappeared, even though most of it has been spent at home and sans anyone else.
The good:
+ My friend's birthday picnic on Sunday was mucho fun, although the new girl that I'm seeing is a bit of a buzzkill -- just sat there, zoned out and didn't look at anyone or say anything. Might be the lithium / multiple meds she's on. Anyway, the black bean avacado salsa (nee salad) turned out to be amazing! So tasty. The Dark Chocolate [cookie] Bing Cherry ice cream sandwiches were also a huge hit. The ice cream had a bit of cream cheese in it for an additional zip -- the cookies were amazing on their own but paired with the cherry ice cream was heavenly!
+ Finished watching the 6 part TV series Revelations. The first four episodes were excellent...then it sorta got rushed and too much was "instant wrap-up". The odd thing was they ended on this great (and for once) bad things happened ending, but the characters were all "we still have hope, la la la" attitude. Which was odd, especially if you know the end of days had started.
+ Brought in a few extra of the ice cream sandwiches to work. This one guy I work with just got back from Alaska and in exchange he brought me some just-caught Salmon and Halibut! Holy crap, that stuff looks amazing and much better than any of the bland shit they pass off here in NYC.
Speaking of...
The Bad:
+ How is it that anyone can honestly say the produce (even at the farmer's market) is fresh and tasty? The stuff I would get in the Midwest had much more flavor. I've had waaayyy too many bland, lifeless produce and meats since I've moved out here. Restaurants are also in the mix on this -- watch out 'cause many of them try to hide weak produce and meats with heavy salting, spices or...the #1 thing to watch for: the sauce! If I see "meat / vegetable in a butter something, something sauce" then that is a strong indicator that the meat is old or that the veggies (i.e. something in a pasta dish, for example) have no flavor.
It's an old trick. Restaurants buy things in a certain ratio then try to salvage it throughout the week...hence the featured dish. The old rule-of-thumb is that the heavier the sauce, the older the meat is...or the ineptitdue of the dish itself. NEVER get anything with a cheese sauce
+ The dickhead at work who sits next to me nearly earned himself a punch in the face. A guy I work with was passing out thank you / goodbye cards to everyone. (1) he's from the Midwest and ironically about an hour from where I use to live and (2) is gay. Big deal, right? Well, after he walks away and we both open our cards this idiot turns to me and goes "you know, that must be something they teach in Gay School 'cause that's something I'd never do.". He then would say the same thing to anyone who walked into the cubicle! Wotta fucker.
+ also on the sorta bad note...tried doing the teeth whitening kit the dentist gave me. Oh yeah, it worked -- but the first time was also the last time 'cause it shrank my gums and now I can't even brush without causing mucho pain and bleeding! Ouch
Hope all is going well for everyone. This weekend is the huge San Diego Comic Con -- where I have people buying me more toys! Some are going on Ebay, some into the collection...which keeps on growing. This week's haul: two new Pinky Street figures, a case of Star Wars series 4 Kubricks and my Nightmare Before Christmas box set. Woo!

No, I haven't been keeping up with the latest comics. I've mostly just been catching up on back issues recently, but I'll be sure to check out "Infinite Crisis."
