I've been in the Army for over 10 years now and i have witnessed a myriad of mangerial techniques. Some of them I agree with and emulate other i reject and hope to never see again. The unit i am currently in is a hotbed of toxic leaders and it is fueled by a Good-Ol' Boy system that is unrivaled in the modern world. It has created a wash of disillusionment across the ranks and it is ignored if not encouraged by the brigade commander. I find it impossible to believe with the exodus of career soldiers from the army in this brigade alone he has not connected the dots. It engenders a sense of helplessness among the subordinates within the brigade because they can do nothing to alter the behavior of their glib and micromanaging bosses. It's not like the civilian world where you can mouth off to your boss and have few repercussions. If i tell a superior he's a fucktard I can lose rank, pay, or even my job (with who knows how bad of a discharge). Sadly the only way out many of these soldiers see is to either get out of the Army or unfortunately, to end their lives.
