I decided to set myself a challenge and watch a horror movie each night in October as a build up towards Halloween, some movies are well known and others not so well known
Night 24 Maniac (1980)
This one has amazing gory special effects and a really gritty and voyeuristic atmosphere, It's about a stalker killer called Frank who kills and scalps women as he believes they are are the reincarnation of his dead mother who he adored but was abused by, he collects the scalps and puts them on to shop window mannequins in his apartment in New York, I always remember this movie because the cover art really stood out and the Tom Savini practical special effects are incredible as always, Tom is actually in this movie he's the guy who got his head blown up by a shotgun blast in one of the movies most notorious scenes, I loved the part at the end where the mannequins come to life and tear Frank into pieces too, I could also see the influence of taxi driver and driller killer two other famous New York movies that capture that period of time in seventies and eighties, it's a fun gory grindhouse movie and definitely worth a watch
