Well, today is the summer solstice. Used to mean a bit more to me when I was more into the whole Pagan thing. Don't get me wrong, I still self-identify as a pagan (lower-case). I've just come to the conclusion that living by a set of ideals is more important in the long run in contributing to a long, happy life than if I were to sacrifice to any particular god, be they a cranky monotheistic desert god, cold and shivery norse one or a drunken, incestual Hellenistic one.
But be that as it may, I still take the time to wish my Wiccan wife a Happy Midsummer. (Which up in the frozen land of Minnesota is ironic as it probably only became warm enough for it to be called Summer a week or so be fore, on average.) And I still feel a little happier, even though today the light starts to leave us again until Yule.
So if any of you are of the persuasion who would appreciate it, I hope your Midsummer was happy. If you are not, then I hope your first day of Summer was. Me? I think I'll have a piece of ice cream cake.
