Don't get me started on pet peeves - I get annoyed at so much stuff that I sometimes fear I'm turning into a crotchety old get-off-my-lawn type. Not likely, because I bottle up my peeve rage inside, where it belongs and doesn't litter the streets.
And, speaking of litter (see what I did there?), THAT happens to be a pet peeve of mine. Here in my adopted hometown of Berlin, it seems to be getting worse all the time: people just leaving their empty or half empty food and drink containers in the street, sometimes perched prettily if precariously on windowsills and mailboxes, people just stuffing their household trash into the tiny garbage cans that Berlin garbage officials deem adequate for our streets, people just letting their goddamn trash fall where it may.
Berlin also is a place where people openly chug beer from a glass bottle at any time of day, and just about anywhere, leaving their empties. where else, in the streets, not always in one piece. Bike paths are a preferred disposal site for broken beer bottlers, it seems.
One major sub-peeve of the greater litter theme is the idiotic practice of carrying your coffee cup with you. By now, it should be public knowledge that these cups and especially their plastic lids are an incredible waste of resources as well as an incredible source of waste. Who in their right minds has to walk through the streets with a cup of coffee in his hand?
And here's what caused this rant - pic taken today by yours truly, and there would have been 5 plastic lids in the pic if I'd shoved the one just outside the frame into the frame which I was too lazy to do. Also people would have looked at me strangely.
Don't litter, folks!
