Being unemployed (I still hope to qualify this with "temporarily") has its advantages. One is that I've been able to take long-ish walks around the city in the late Summer heat, taking in new sights and finding nooks and crannies I hadn't known before; another is that I have so much more time to take in some of the plentiful cultural offerings.
Last Saturday, Berlin held its annual Long Museum Night, with 70+ museums staying open until the wee small hours. We made a tour of 5 museums, including the Musical Instruments Museum, the Ibero-American Institute, the Bauhaus Museum, and a museum devoted to Art Déco design. While at the Ibero-American Institute, we picked up a flyer for a free concert by Comlombian singer-songwriter Maria Cristína Plata which we then went to this past Wednesday.
Currently, the Young Euro Classic concert series featuring young musicians and orchestras is being held, and we're going to two of their concerts - ok, the 2nd one, which we're seeing tonight, is only a rehearsal by a Mexican orchestra. Both were/are held at the venerable Konzerthaus (in the foreground of the picture I'm posting below).
Today, I'll also visit the Architectural Drawing Museum, that is currently staging an Anime Architecture exhibit, with production drawings from Manga films.
Cheers!
