I believe I promised (threatened?) to post a humonguously gigantic photo blog about my recent stay in Lisbon, Portugal. Well, there's just no way to adequately show the beauty of that city, or to improve on the gorgeous photos abler photographers have taken, So, here's just a smallish and very eclectic selection of pics. I plan to post more on my flickr account.
A pretty, and pretty typical, alley in the Alfama neighborhood, where we stayed in a nice little airbnb apartment.
Picturesque view over the roofs of the Alfama. And the Tejo (Tagus) river in the distance.
Colorful tourist on the roof of the National Pantheon.
Vertiginous view inside the National Pantheon.
There's sardines all over Lisbon, but this was the largest and most colorful of all.
By way of contrast, I also have an eye for the little things...
Trippy sidewalk in Cascais.
Amazing comic art mural in the Oriente train/subway station.
Writing postcards in our humble abode. Well, I offered to write one to YOU - yes, you!
No tourist is allowed to leave Lisbon unless he can prove he's been on the historic No. 28 tram.
There is no escaping the vegan message...
The amazing (and colorful) Pena Palace in Sintra.
Incognito film star? No, just lil old me enjoying the sights of Sintra.
I bet the king had sweet dreams amid this naughty wallpaper.
In the Prazeres cemetery. These are basically mini-chapels, with curtains for privacy, where the living can pray for their dead.
Doing a tourist-y shot with the statue of Lisbon's famed writer Fernando Pessoa outside his fave café.
A pub sign I liked.
Every day is a bad hair day on the banks of the Tejo river.
We enjoyed a nice poolside lunch at this café in Parque Eduardo VII.
A bizarre art exhibit we should have seen but didn't.
This Pepsico shareholder is always pleased to see the tentacles of his favorite company extend into the most remote nooks and crannies.
We had the prettiest possible guide (centre) on our Museu do Fado tour. Here, she's catching me in the act of taking one of probably a dozen photos of her...
I'll leave you with a pic of me posing in front a pretty good replica of the Golden Gate bridge, and a view from the southern side of the Tejo (Lisbon is on the opposite side).
