I have 2-3 people really close then 10 sorta close friends here in NYC this was a hard place to crack and make real friends and it took me years.  Then from running clubs and DJ-ing and producing there are the thousands of people who know me and I can't even keep their faces straight. it makes for fun nights out but I get all embarrassed when I can't even remember names or faces.  I am glad I have my online friends too. I think some of the closest people I am too I have never met or only met once or twice.   I event moved into a house in AZ for awhile all people I knew only from this site and never met before.  We are all still close and it was a great drama free home with like 5 or 6 of us.
