The Night Before The Election
I often remember the night before the election more than the night of. I remember the night before Clinton was elected I was just a small child and I was being told by a number of adults who they thought I should want to win. I felt compelled by both sides but ultimately when I went to bed that night when I prayed I said something like "I really don't understand all of this that's going on or what should happen." I didn't pray that the candidate God wanted to be elected to become president because although I was mostly naive about politics I couldn't imagine God interfering with the election system. I just prayed that the best would come out of whatever did happen.
This is an election where each side is highly disturbed by the possibility of the candidate of their opposite party winning. What are they doing besides voting? Hoping? Praying to baby Jesus? Maybe some kooks already masturbating while looking at their favorites logo?
It's 15 years later and I'm not a confused little boy anymore. I'm not theistic and I know (I'd like to think so, anyway) more about politics than I did then. I'm voting for Obama and I really do hope he wins but I'm not going to have a conniption over it. I'm not going to stay up half the night watching the television just so I can know for sure before I go to bed (like that'd make a difference.) I'm going to vote and then I'm going to withdraw and resign myself to whatever does or does not happen. That's all I can do.
