When I was two years old I survived spinal meningitis. Due to the very high fever I suffered brain damage that included a speech impediment. I went through years of speech therepy, but still, if I am relaxed, I occasionally sound a little like a stroke victim.
Today, a bartender cut me off after less than one drink because I was sluring my words. If I don't focus on each word, I have a hard time talking and I was relaxed and having fun, so he cut me off.
I'm gobsmacked. Isn't that the most awful thing? Everyone who knew me said I wasn't drunk, that was just how I talked and he wouldn't believe them. And when I protested, he told me to quit being hostle or he was going to kick me out.
So, I drank water all night and tried not to feel self-conscious about my weird speech pattern, and now I am taking my freeky self to bed.
