Things didn't work out as planned for the Georgia Bulldogs. Three things needed to happen for Georgia to play for the National Championship:
1. Oklahoma had to beat Missouri
2. Pittsburgh had to beat West Virginia
3. Tennessee had to beat LSU
Even if all three had happened there were still no guarantees. The most improbable of the three was Pitt vs. West Virginia. Pitt did not have a good record, had not played very well during the season, and never played well against West Virginia. On the other hand, WV was ranked #2 in the country and had dominated everyone they played. It could be said that their one lost to Southern Florida earlier in the year was a fluke.
But, this is why we play the games. Pitt dominated WV for the entire game. WV was favored by 28 points coming into the game but what happened on the field was quite different. True, WV lost its QB to injury in the 2nd quarter (although he came back and played part of the 4th) but I don't think White's availability for the whole game would have made much of a difference.
And then there are our good friends at Tennessee. I hate Tennessee. But, Georgia needed them to beat LSU if Georgia wanted to move up in the polls and play for the National Championship. TN could have won the game, but they threw two interceptions in the 4th quarter that helped seal the victory for LSU.
In the end, Georgia will be playing Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl on New Year's Day. Not the national championship, but still a BSC bowl.

Sure I'm ready; bring it on! I ain't afeard o' no holiday! Fact is I shift a little from Richard Dawkins toward Judaism this time of year as an excuse for never being organized enough to do anything. Fortunately I have lovely friends who invite me over so it all works out. How about you?
