Meredith Emerson

The story of Meredith Emerson's murder is truly heart breaking. However, her story is also one of true courage.

May she rest in peace.

A good friend of mine drags me to movies that his wife wishes to avoid. This usually works out well but there has been a disappointment or two. This last one reset the goalposts rather nicely, so mediocrity has moved a bit up the bell curve toward excellence now. At least you warned me that No Country carries no guarantee either. Such a pity.

I'm beginning to think I won't have a social life without actually leaving the apartment. That's quite a lot of bother but it may have to come to that. Perhaps I have some residual reluctance left over from my wonderfully attentive stalker about three years back. tongue

I would like to talk for a minute about something I have heard much about during the Democratic debates. I have dubbed this "The Inequality Myth". According to Hillary and Barack, we have in this country two Americans - one for the rich and one for the poor. Let me high light a few facts that you aren't likely to hear via your typical mainstream...

i don't know if i agree with what you've written, but i appreciate it. i do think that wealth is deeply skewed in our culture and every where for that matter. i also think that the reality is that most people will always want "more.' there are major inequalities in our country though... i did art workshops in prisons for many years and i saw the results of poverty, the 'poor' school education, etc. as for you paying for my membership... i don't like people doing things for me... i do appreciate the thought though. if i leave i will be sure to let people know how to stay in touch wink.

I have a blind date tonight. Wish me luck.
jozsef:
I'd love a blind date, as long as she's not actually blind, since I'm now too old to be nervous. (I actually prefer to think of it as being serene and enlightened.) SInce you're such an intelligent, decent and thoughtful guy, your date will be lucky if she's suitable for you to spend time with, but I guess it does work both ways. Best of luck and we'll wait for the video.

I am currently watching the first 3 seasons of Lost again in preparation for the new season. Funny how so many details have slipped from my mind. The good news is that all of the shows are just as good the 2nd time around.

I had a call last night from the daughter of an old friend. I have known the daughter since she was...

You gave her the best answer as far as I'm concerned. We can never tailor a stimulus to get a specific response from another person although most of us believe otherwise, even in the face of a lifetime of contrary experience. Certain people, such as most parents, will continue to love us even if we don't fulfill their expectations although they may not be gracious in the heat of the moment.

Judging people will go on, as it's an inherited inclination related to judging ourselves. A vaccine to end this would be a fine thing indeed. In the jungle, the strong live and the weak die. The belief that others are flawed provides some reassurance that we may be safe and that is not a process we can dislodge with a suggestion or a conversation. This is not to suggest giving up.

I am considering a move back to Atlanta, my hometown. I've been offered a job at Emory University and might accept. When I moved from Atlanta, over 10 years ago, I swore I would never go back. Not that there is anything wrong with Atlanta. I love it there. But I have always had a strong need to "see the world" and going back to...

I moved away from home in 95 to get away from some things. It was nothing bad it was some volunteer work and the only way to get out of it was to move away. I was to deep in the organization to just walk away. But now I am trying everything I can to move back. I took my wife there over Xmass and she loved it to so hopefully in a few years it will happen.

There just is no place like home. I mean that seriously.
jozsef:
That was adequate!!! wink

I am free from work until 1/3. I plan on playing with the dog, watching movies, and catching up on all the books I have wanted to read. Oh, and sleep. Sweet, beautiful sleep.

Happy new year. I'm getting back to you, it's coming!

Things didn't work out as planned for the Georgia Bulldogs. Three things needed to happen for Georgia to play for the National Championship:

1. Oklahoma had to beat Missouri
2. Pittsburgh had to beat West Virginia
3. Tennessee had to beat LSU

Even if all three had happened there were still no guarantees. The most improbable of the three was Pitt vs. West Virginia. Pitt...

Sure I'm ready; bring it on! I ain't afeard o' no holiday! Fact is I shift a little from Richard Dawkins toward Judaism this time of year as an excuse for never being organized enough to do anything. Fortunately I have lovely friends who invite me over so it all works out. How about you?

I've been super busy at work writing grant proposals. Begging for money takes a lot of time and energy!

Molly has been a real joy in my life lately. She has been keeping Courtney and I very entertained. She has always had a distinct personality, but she is really starting to shine.

We decided to volunteer with a local labrador retriever rescue group and agreed...

not sure i can articulate my thoughts super well tonight... long couple days of work and pretty tired, but i'll try. i strongly believe that cancer is deeply connected to stress... everyone i have even met (including myself) holds tension in particualr areas of their body... over time this is what i believe triggers illness and injury. as for our disconnection with earth.... i feel it makes us more stressed.... i also think we do not see the relationship with what we consume or disregard and how it literally can infect us... everything is connected. i think a great deal of what we have done in society is a way of trying to stop the inevitable... we will die one day. maybe cancer was always here, but i tend to believe it stemmed from man-made causes... i have no proof or research to back up my opinion. i just wonder why people who are ill can become healthy through things like yoga and art, etc... that's got to say something.... those are things that connect individuals... anyway just my thought... sorry to ramble!

Hi there old fellow. I was a little surprised and a bit disappointed that you didn't find my comments from a while ago interesting enough to comment on because I looked forward to knowing what you thought. In any case, I'm not berating you at all because there was no implied obligation; I simply wanted you to know that it was so easy and such a pleasure writing for a guy with so much intelligence, depth and decency, that I'm still trying to figure out how I can capture the same feeling when writing a book for an audience of unknowns. I'm in your debt for the experience and really thought you should know. If anything was offensive to you, it was certainly the farthest thing from my intention. I hope you're well.

Georgia beat Florida today. It's always a good day when the Dogs beat the Gators.

I've been reading through a lot of the editorials posted to the main SG page. And they bother me.

I am a conservative and tend to vote Republican. However, I do not agree with major sections of the party platform and I do not vote exclusively Republican. I like to...

You probably shouldn't take Chainlink too seriously. You rather came off as a troll in most of your first posts, and while I can see that you've calmed down a lot, a lot of people aren't going to respect your transformation, at least for a while.

I still think you're wrong about everything, of course. Civility doesn't change that.

yeah. Biggest one in history.
