I've been sitting here this morning feeling grumpy about having to leave home already. My scheduled delivery is in Lexington, KY on Tuesday morning. It's about a 900 mile trip from Providence so in other words not possible to complete in one day. In order to get there on time I'd need to leave now... drive half of my Sunday, and all of Monday (which, for us Americans is a holiday).
Bullshit.
I shouldn't get screwed out of my holiday weekend. So I called and left a message for my dispatcher (everyone in the office is off until Tuesday, naturally). I stated that I'm not leaving today because I feel like I'm getting the shaft. I'm still planning to leave tomorrow morning which means I'm compromising. I'm still missing out on the actual holiday, but at least I get the rest of today and tonight to simply relax. I'm not going to be at the delivery by Tuesday morning. It will be Tuesday afternoon.
Honestly, I don't think that is very unreasonable. After all, I am away for a MONTH at a time... so having 3 full days at home seems more than fair.
I've got a few new DVDs to watch today.
Day 2 of NutriSystem. So far I have no complaints. I'm not feeling hungry or anything despite the portions being smaller than what I am used to. It's easier to manage at home, however, when I've got access to a kitchen and fresh fruit and veggies. On the road will be the real challenge.

Maybe when I'm driving I'll figure out what areas tend to have better parking and see if I can't run mostly in thoes areas.
Ken told us about the frequent fueler cards. He also mentioned that you get a free shower if you bought at least $50 dollars worth of fuel, i think the figure was. I think the most interesting thing I saw there was actually the load finder, the TV screeen with all the available loads displayed on it. It seems that if you were an O/O with a reefer there's always a lot of loads available. Maybe you could sort of fart aroud wherever you felt like going, pulling reefer loads.
I looked at a bunch of trucking jobs that were listed on masslive.com. Pohl actually had a job posting today. One field I might be interested in when I've got my year of driving experience might be transporting cars. There seems to be good money in it. Might make you a good hijack target, but I think even if you're hauling bricks someone might want to hijack you and bring your load to a crooked contractor.
