My last Friday in California for a long time. It feels weird. I've been living in this state for 20 years. From 14 till now.
I do love it here in some ways, and dislike it intensely in others. Regardless it has been a good home.
Now I'm off to make a new home, for who knows how long? It is as good a place as any I've been to and I'm fairly excited about living in a large city. I haven't done that since I was 14. Sure it isn't London or San Francisco, but so far I've enjoyed it just as much if not more than San Francisco (nothing has compared to London though.)
I am at least familiar with some of the good restaurants and some of the fun places to go. I'm sure my knowledge of all of that will increase fairly rapidly considering where I'll be located. I am excited about all the new people I'll get to know, and the people I already know. The excitement of it all is covering up the sadness of leaving. Make no mistake about it, this is not something easy to do. It is not a decision arrived upon casually and without plenty of considering all factors involved. I can't separate out any single one and say well, if this were not part of it all, would I still be doing this?
A little more than a few months back, there would have been no questions at all. It is easy to forget that life continues moving, regardless of anything that happens.
Ever since the first interview I've been making sure I breathe more, making sure I take my time more. Since soon enough, I'll be breathing and taking my time somewhere else. Which is a good thing.
