That song was pretty lame. I have a hard time with lyrics that don't just seem corny.
I hate corny.
Yet I want to write a song that gypsy girl can sing.
What could be nicer than hearing your own words wafting about the room, sung in the high registers?
My Basic Problem
This is what I have observed. The poetry group that I go to, while made up of people with a high level of technical proficiency, is as dull as watching a cow eat.
Maybe duller than that, because you're locked up in a room with these people for hours at a time.
Why do I keep going back? Because the other poets I know aren't really poets. They're barbaric yawpers. I'm sorry, but that just doesn't do it for me anymore.
It would, if the yawping was tuneful or something. Sometimes I like the spirited denunciations of "The System" but really it gets old. Actually it got old a long time ago.
They had a name for it. The Beat Generation.
I think the future of poetry is being written by people who have their fingers jammed into the socket of life hard enough to get a shock from it, not by those who are just dilly-dallying.
It's guts I'm talking about. And fear.
I see more of it here than most places I've been.
You know who you are.
I hate corny.
