Well I was going to go out tonight but thought better of it.
I had just sat down in the bookstore when eskimo girl walked in with her most recent boyfriend. He said hello and made me shake his hand and she just kind of grunted and sat down facing away from me.
You'd think we had never met.
She generally acts that way when I see her in town, but especially when she's with someone else.
At least this time I didn't leave any snotty messages on her answering machine. It's hard to get over her.
But I did get up and leave the reading. I didn't want to watch her sitting there with him all night.
So I came home and wrote a poem
***************************************************
folded in my arms
your forest; deep, full of rare flowers
with long soft tongues attractive and vain,
and silent, appealing to the sky,
for the soft love of moths
bowing in shadow.
among orchids: wild despair,
those hunting bodies crash all over,
bleed, their flesh fragile,
hearts worn, all folded and abrupt
as flowers in the air.
your petals get stuck to my skin in the rain
as I hum a tragedy, gathering more
and more.
****************************************
It helped me get over that moment of anguish. Now I feel better.
