i've been trying to record the "hurt" video from johnny cash and it's been pure hell sitting through the banality of the country music network. "i love this bar" was a guilty pleasure, but this one cat's lyrics: "man, you are one hot mama, let's turn this bedroom into a sauna". wow.
in the interim, i'm letting my dog loose in the backyard to chase squirrels. i love the way his hair spikes when he goes into squirrel-hunting mode. he gets this razor sharp looking blade of hair from head to tail and storms around like a pouncing jackal. he looks like a lil' boar bear. i love him so.
and boo! the cat tries her best to vest him of his prowess by jumping like a flying squirrel onto his head as he prances around. and then she hurries off under our sapling redwood and waits until her next gambit at gettin' at toby.
pets. better than humans sometimes.
i've gotten a buttload of new music, so here's the lowdown: belle & sebastian: dear catastrophe waitress, i think it's their best yet, and i really was growing tired of their pouty act. this is a breath of fresh air (stilled pregnant with deep lyrics and heartening melodies) in their fog of pretention. april march: triggers, i've loved her since she was singing for the shitbirds and covering gainsbourg. the new album is a kissing cousin of her last effort, chrominance detector. apparat organ orchestra, four organists and a drummer. the faint should blush and gary numan would crack a wicked smile. these icelandic boys have a solid debut cd. goner: how good we had it, now, it may be a local bias, but these five points fellows bellow out some riveting vocals and high energy tunes, preaching the mantras of the everyman. the closing track, townies, gives me chillbumps each time i hear it. think weezer, if they grew up in north carolina. proof, another local favorite. soft and hard at the same time, akin to mogwai. very nice debut cd.
well i think that's it. now if only that goddamned johnny cash video would come on...

My dog points at squirrels. And bumblebees.
I have internet now, mind you. I check every 5-10 minutes.
Get on it!
