so, this morning, i was getting ready to go out to lunch with a friend, when i hear my sister say "what?!" my mom was on the phone and points to me and mouths "tell her"...my uncle Paul killed himself last night....
apparently, my aunt was downstairs doing the laundry, when she heard a loud noise, she told her son brian, my cousin, to tell paul about the noise... my cousin went to his bedroom where he found his father, shot to death, by himself...
My cousins are without a father, my aunt is without a husband, his parents are without a son, his sibilings are without a brother... im without an uncle....
if you were to ask brian, who his idol, his mentoir, his role model was for his whole life, hed say his father... he strived to be just like him, and he corrected paul's faults... paul was a selfish man, he did things for himself, things despite other people... and it obviously went with him up until his death... Brian will never be that person, but always with the good parts of Paul, like sports, and listening to his advice... Melissa, my other cousin, his daughter, was always a daddy's girl. Im just so happy that she wasnt there when he did it.
im just so in shock...i dont know what to do, what to say, what to think. im beyond words, im beyond tears, i wish i could just shut off my brain for a few days and lay in bed like a vegetable.... this is gunna be the hardest week of my life...

I'm very sorry to hear about that. My thoughts go out to you and your family!

I helped a friends family through a suicide a year ago.[he jumped off a bridge into the raritan bay in NJ]. The hard part with losing a love one that way was that family members may blame themselves. The great support they got from family and friends helped them relise that life is precious and sometime people make horrible mistakes when times get tough. What to say and do? Just get in touch and tell them you care and youll be there for them. Just knowing youve tried to help will help you with the shock of the situation as well.
