nycbike:
If someone told you to go down and clean something off of the subway tracks, how much money would you ask for?
jenisfamous:
Hey bike,
My subway-cleaning rate is irrelevant -- how much would Heidi Klum charge to give a haircut? $10,000? Does that mean people who give $80 haircuts are oppressed?
I would demand a lot of money to clean subway tracks. But that means I wouldn't take the job at all. It would be wrong to accept the job for an amount of money I was not satisfied with, and then illegally go on strike.
When those people were hired, the law against striking was on the books.
Everyone is free to not take the job, or to quit the job if they don't like it. If you quit your job and a bunch of other people would be happy to take it, then I'd say the job was being compensated at market rate.
That's supply and demand.

Commenting on spam headlines is a banal blog topic, but this missive proved simply irresistable:
Subject: hammer hard fuck games devoid of all taboos
That first bit, the "hammer hard fuck games" -- a bit ee cummings, no?
I feel like a phrase that evocative would've won approval in an Ivy League creative writing class; no words are wasted here.
And note, we have said...

valcapone:
It's so weird that you're always announcing these shows at Pete's, cus I used to live on Lorimer and Ainslie and a friend dragged me down there one night for a show that never materialized. We just ended up having drinks at the bar and left a note on a napkin for the band that didn't show. I wonder if the bartender gave it to them?
I guess it's only weird because I know exactly the place you're talking about, but I can't come cus I'm in Montral. But anyway, rock on over Colonial Williamsburg!

Damn! in your wonder woman underpants...! Maybe you can wear them over this weekend?

akalucifer:
Which one would you prefer?

PS, you made my week by blogging me! I actually emailed people to say, look, I've been blogged!
nycbike:
Thanks, Jen. Natasha researched flappers on the internet for over an hour just for the contest. It's really sweet of you to compliment her like that. That more than compensates for the contest, or lack thereof, at least I think.
