Gracie is out of heat, Doris is in heat. A loud, wailing, wiggling, incessant heat. Oh. My. God is she loud. She has Siamese somewhere in her outcross, I'm sure. Luckily, she sleeps through the night so we can sleep also. But I can't let Spencer out to sleep with us because he smells her "come fuck me" scent, and HE starts yelling.
MEEERRRROOOOOW! MEERRRow! Brrr...brrr..meerrrOOW! merOWmerOW MEEEERRRRROOOOW!!!!
I feel bad for Clutch, our doggie, because Doris is trying to get her to breed her. She is also trying to get Lizzie, Gracie, the doorjamb, the bedpost, the couch cushion, or the litterbox to mate. No one is willing to oblige. Poor baby!
In other news, I just found out that Gracie's mom has been diagnosed with a congenital and hereditary heart defect. Gracie has a 50% chance of inheriting it, and if she does, her daughter Lizzie would also have a 50% chance. There is no way to tell, except an ultrasound scan of the heart, and even then, it can only be diagnosed once the illness starts to manifest itself. Basically, she could scan clear for years, and then <poof> one time she scans positive for HCM. Because of this, I will be spaying Gracie and Lizzie and praying with all my might that they never get the disease. There is a good chance Gracie (and therefore Lizzie) would never get HCM...but there is a chance they will, and I'm not willing to pass that chance on .
The thing that really sucks is that it could have been prevented if Gracie's breeder had bothered to ultrasound scan her cats. People have such low morals when it comes to animals. As long as she could breed cats and make money, why bother spending it on health care and preventing this illness from spreading? People who don't scan their breeding cats are the scum of the Earth, and deserve to rot in Hell. For all the pain they cause people who unwittingly buy an effected kitten, for all the poor kitties who die young, breeders who don't do this simple thing to prevent this...well, they can eat their own shit and die.
