Well other than being completely flat ass broke (even after borrowing $20 from petty cash at work until next Thursday - pay day) I've been pretty good. Working a lot of overtime and watching a lot of movies, since when you are broke that's all you can really afford to do (movies - blockbuster moviepass).
Anyways, the move to Geneva will be taking place in... Read More
Well, Geneva, NY is a definite now. I will be moving there in 1-2 months and hopefully getting a job really fucking fast. I'd like to get one before I even get there but I'm waiting on Cornell University to post the new jobs that are soon to be available for their Geneva research facility.
Other than that I think I've made a decision to... Read More
Ahhhh, my profile pic says it all. Last night was a great one. After a long horribly shitty day at work I went out and got completely obliterated drunk (it's been a while), smoked some herb, met a bunch of new people, and well - mainly just had a god damn wonderful time!
Yes, Yes drinking is always a good time! Glad to hear you had fun. As far as the festival goes, I've never been before. I actually live closer to Roc. than Syr. I'd like to check it out though. Hey i know it's been a long time, but hows the job hunt going?
1. My computer is fixed, but it is not in Syracuse. It is back home, thus I still am without. I shall have it soon though (I hope...).
2. I might be moving to Geneva, NY here in the next couple months. My girl got a job offer there and well, I've been looking and I kinda got a job offer... Read More
So, I had an interview at Bristol-Myers and well, they took someone else. Hopefully I get another interview soon, since I have multiple job apps out.
Anyways, I haven't been on much cause my computer went down. I'm using a friends right now just for a quick update. I'll hopefully be back soon as I am trying to get my computer fixed. Some stupid problem... Read More
I wish my boss at work would get hit in the face with lightning!
I'm not going to go into what an asshole he was today, but let's just say that he was talking about firing me for something that everyone in the lab does, as well as himself.
What a fucking egotistical hippocrit.
Anyways, the job search is continuing and after a short stint... Read More
I'm currently working on my PhD at Cornell, though technically I won't be completing it here, as my advisor and I are moving to Wales in the fall for a pretty exciting opportunity. Our work is in physical organic chemistry--we're the ones who figure out mechanisms and techniques, both experimental and theoretical, for determining them. It's wicked interesting, though even I find at times that it can be the most challenging area of chemistry, even though it's what I do.
Yeah, med schools tend not to give a shit what problems you may have, though arguably with good reason. I mean, what happens to a doctor's patient-load if he or she has a nervous breakdown? It sucks, but it kinda makes sense in a down-the-road kind of way.
I often wish I'd had the time to pick up Philosophy in addition to the subjects I studied in undergrad. I feel like it's one of those things that I would find rewarding whether I ended up using it or not. Be glad you took the time to! I'm jealous. As for the Bio, though, I'm sure there's work out there. I have no idea where to look, though. If you knew your undergrad advisor well enough, would it be possible to ask him/her for advice on where to look?
Hope you find something, sounds like your current lab situation is less than desirable.
