The Current 98.3,,,, All indie rock all the time...
These past couple of weeks the twin City airwaves have seen the start of a new radio station run by public radio that plays what they are calling an anti-format. They started out say that they were going to play a lot of local music and pop music that isn't getting played on cleanchannel and disney radio around the country. Their promise was that we'd hear new artists like Wilco and Interpol next to classic artists like Johnny Cash.
So far I have been unimpressed, the station seems afraid to rock. Sure once and a while they play the Iggy and the Stooges, or the Only Ones, but mostly it's that awful shoe gazing indie rock, you know young white guys crying about how awful they feel, or the world is, or what ever it is. I call it Borecore, music o bore the fuck out of me. I can stand about 4 minutes of it before I start to zone out.
The issues seems to be the tempo. I don't mind slower music or softer music, but I also want something that rocks and something that had a drive and shimmer to it. Once and a while give me a solid burst of anger, joy or just scream at the world. The sporadic playing of Replacments tuns just isn't cutting it.
I have pretty much given up on the Current, i'm not it's target audience, so oh well........

radio's dead. It's not even worth paying attention to anymore. Your best bet is to get an MP3 player and just put it on shuffle.
