When I was a kid I wanted to be an Archeologist. I wanted to uncover history and find out about forgotten people and their lives, I wanted to know about them, imagine how they lives and how they died. I didn't really know what part of history I would be into excavating and what people I would be drawn to. I certainly didn't think that my archeology would revolve around rock music that few cared about for more then 20 minutes back in the late 60's and into the early 80's... and if I am honest even into the 1990's.
just looking over my list of favorite bands and acts, looking at the play list on my iTunes and knowing what I look for in record shops, it's obvious to me that the forgotten bands are what I am drawn to. If you have met me and listened to music with me you'll know these bands, but if you don't mostly likely these names mean nothing to you.
The Forbidden Dimension
New Math
Jet Black Berries
The Divine Horsemen
The Staggers
any one? is this thing on?
Drivin'n'Cryin
King's X
am I getting closer.... wait this is a punk rock site you might have heard and ignored ..
The Groovie Ghoulies
Radio Birdman
Legal Weapon
Rank'n'File
ok... ok.... how about a gimmie?
Blue Oyster Cult
The Cramps
anyone? really... come on......
It's not like I expect you to know the current bands that I hear that rock like, The Hellacopters, Thee Ultra Bimboos, Mensen (rip), The Flamin' Sideburns.
anyway, think about it now I see that my archeology is of this music. I don't know if my reading about it, talking to people about it, or researching these bands and their music matters. I don't know if anything I have written about them means anything to anyone but me. I don't even know if I have represented them correctly, but I have done my best.
