Randum Thoughts:
Joe Meek died for you sins......
Who's Joe Meek?
Vulcan 1908, Aries 1918, Dimeter 1924, Saturn 1932......
why is it that the only songs that I hear on radio these days that I can sit though are from 10 years ago, but there are plenty of tunes that I have heard on CD that I love to listen?
go back and listen to these...
Alice in Chains: Grind
Screaming Trees: Dollar Bill
Paw: Sleeping Bag
White Zombie: Thunder Kiss '65
Pearl Jam: Black
Sponge: Plowed
and think about why they were singles in 1993 or so.....
I'm starting to see a lot lists of overlooked/lost classics from the 90's and bands like The Screaming Trees are popping up on these lists.
The Trees were and amazing band. Caught up in the zighiest of grunge and the hunger to hear something that felt alive... I picked up a copy of their Sweet Oblivion album. It's a great pop record that has just enough psychedellic swirling and edgy blues feeling tunes that it wasn't a hit, but it hold up 12 years later. There is a shimmer of pop that was to clean for grunge, mixed with a heavy feeling of unesayness that was to gloomy for pop. Their follow up and last album Dust replaced the pop shimmer with a dusty country feel that never connected with the masses.... any way.
