I've been drinking... you have been warned.
stuff I have bought from iTunes and commentary.....
Alice in Chains: Grind... I keep hearing this on the radio and had forgotten what a great single it was. It's got melody and that cool 70's Sabbath off kilter solo.... the swan song of a band that was important, and will be again.
Bob Wills is Still the King: Asleep at the Wheel with Clint Black: I love Wayon Jennins original and had to hear the cover, and while it's not as great at Waylon's live version it's still a great song.
Bela Lugosi's Dead: Bauhaus... This song might as well be the only goth song, it's the one that launched a million 'Dye 'em black' girls and the whole goth movement in so many ways.
A New England: Billy Bragg... for years I only knew the cover by The Groovie Ghoulies and have only recently heard the original version, there is just something about the tune that hits me right in my soul.
Please Quit Calling Me from Jail: Blood on the Saddle... one of my favorite cowpunk groups... this was on the only track by them that I could get in digital format for a long time.
The Devils Right Hand: Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Steve Earl... yes I have bought all 3 versions of this song... I have this thing about handguns, no matter how hard i try they were and are an important part of my life... In a positive way, and there is something about this tune that hits me the right way.
He Stopped Loving her today: Johnny Cash... a cover of the great George Jones tune touches me and speaks to my own unrequited love for a woman who has surly forgotten that I live in this world.
Big Iron: Johnny Cash... this has always been one of my favorite Marty Robbins tunes. I was born in the american west and have always had an attachment to it in much the way that I have a attachment to my ansestorial homeland of Sweden.
Under the Milkyway: the Church... 80's new wave pop that recalls a time in my life when things were more simple but no where near as happy.
Spooky: Classics IV....rockin' R&B from an age when R&B didn't revlve around BPM or young women who can dance with studio enhanced voices. This is honest, catchy and solid music.
Lost in the Ozone, midnight Shift and Hot Rod lincoln: Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen: A 70's classic, a Buddy Holly cover and a one hit wonder all of pure swing revival/pub rock history. More guys from my hometown making music that is fun and rocks.
MiniSkirt Blues: The Cramps.. it's a cover, but man I remember that one girl in high school who wore that leather skirt that went to her knees and drove me crazy, I remember all the beautiful young mini skirt clad girls that wouldn't give me a second look let along the time of day, and I know all about the Mini Skirt Blues.
Don't Dream it's Over: Crowed House... my last entry was about music from the last great age of radio and this is one of the songs that I remember liking.
Runaway: Del Shannon... this is one of the first songs that I ever loved and that I ever vibed too. There is just something great about it.. that keyboard part or the lyrics, something that makes it the classic of lost love that it is.
Reflections: Diana Ross & The Supremes ...... I have always dug this tune from back when I was a China Beach fan. Yes I lived in a town where 'nam never ended and the evil of Nixion and his little war (even thought it's historically LBJ's war) was everywhere... Ok and Dana Delany is hot hot hot...
Walk Idiot Walk: The Hives..... I wanted to hear the tune before buying the CD, which I did.. but all I have to say is "Can't Explain'
She Comes in Colors: Hooters... '80's new wave pop east coasters all you zombies and we danced local hit cover a tune by LOVE
People who Died: Jim Carroll..... great tune that i dig because of the Timothology and the remake of Dawn of the Dead.
All Along the Watchtower: Jimi Hendrix.... there is something just so end of the world about this one that I dig...
Mexican Radio : Lee Press on and the Nails..... see All Along the Watchtower and add Swing Music
The Van Lear Rose (album): Loretta Lynn..... I just wanted to check it out. I give it a 7 out of 10, songs like Portland, Oregon and the Van Lear Rose make up for some the more lack luster tunes... but the important thing is that Loretta was allowed to make her own tunes and that even if they didn't work out they were hers.
Valerie Loves me: Material Issue.... my good friend and former room mate Ryan used to play this tune over and over and I never thought that I would want to hear it again... but time changes everything... right?
Shotgun and a Pistol: Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard.... more outlaw cowboy stuff that's really just my thing.
Chloe Dancer/Crown of thorns (live): Pearl Jam... I always have a soft sport for the looser and the underdog,,, and in this case the Stardog.. Mother Love Bone was a good band that mixed glam, punk and metal a long time before saint kurt covered Bowie.
Final Solution: Pere Ubu & Peter Murphy... Girls Don't like me cause I Have a miss direction... I don't need no cure I just need a final solution.. the final solution to the geek problem, social darwinism.
It's a Hit & Portions for Foxes: Rilo Kiley; Ok I have always had a thing for their singer back when she was just on TV or what ever, but I dig the sugary pop of this band. I am still unsure if I will buy the whole album but it's got enough quirk and keeps the indie rock pretension on the down low to the point what I can enjoy the tunes.
Lil' Red Riding Hood: Sam Sham and the Pharaohs.... classic garage rock...
Born to be Wild: Steppenwolf .... I admit I forgot that I have this classic Mars Bonfire tune on a comp somewhere, but it's a killer, and one of the great rock tunes of all time to this day. This isn't another song that denotes Biker so vividly as this tune.
Guitar Town: Steve Earl... a solid tune that I read about a lot and wanted to hear.
C'mon C'mon, Love is like a drug, Heartlessly Hopeless: The Von Bondies..... I wanted to hear their new album before it his stores and I always support my friends.... I hope that you guys are all well and things pick up.
another time I'll talk about the stuff that I haven't found on itunes.

you should consider it your sacred duty as a resident of minnesota to escort your german woman-friend to the state fair. and while you are there should should buy her some cheese curds, some deep fried pickles, and some deep fried oreos (ok so you can share them). And then you should take her to the midway and show her your man talent by winning her a giant stuffed monkey.
Peace,
