I have a hard time dealing with the summer. My body just isn't made to deal with the heat. It gives me headaches, makes me sluggish and tired, and then there is the air conditioning. I must be one to the few people that I have met that has a physical reaction to Air Conditioning. I don't know what it is, the sudden change in temp, the chemicals used or the change in humidity be I have had reactions from head aches to vomiting, over all I just have a hard time physically living though it.
I live in the upper mid west partly because of the winters, but this hot summer stuff has to end. Where do I have to go to find a more temperate climate?
Ok TV Stuff,,, and some other thoughts.....
Have Gun Will travel: It's a 50's western, and I dig that. Simple straight forward tales of honor in a land with out much. I know that many will see it as hokey, but there is a place for that view of the world. Anyway, I dig the old shows they had something that a lot of current shows don't... I'm just not sure what it is, and I'm not sure that people want it anymore.
Tomorrowland:
Once upon a time Disney was a studio that got kids to dream, There was a world before where people were interested in more than owning crap and getting high/getting laid. there was a time when people dreamed of the Space Age, a better world where science had made things better for everyone, where life was filled with the challenge of reaching a goal and solving problems, growing and challenging yourself. This DVD showcases 3 programs that Disney and NASA produced to help get the public interested in exploring space, the moon and Mars.
The art and history is the best part of these shows. The style is bold, modern (for the 1950s) and adult (meaning that it wasn't soft cell kiddie stuff, not that it was porn). The later parts of the show where they stage a space light, or moon shot get a little long, but I am sure that in 1955 it was amazing stuff.
There has to be a lot of cool 1950's documentary footage of space stuff out there, animation and art produced for that era that is collecting dust in some vault somewhere that I for one would love to see, this DVD just makes me think if all of that, and all of the other stuff that is molding away while the bean counters pay for storage and refuse to sell it to the people (but that's another rant).
Notes:
1, Our IKEA store opens the 14th of July and I hope to collect a chunk of overtime, which means that I don't know that I'll have the reserve brain power to write anything of value here.
2, I an frustrated with the Old punk and the Trash rock groups here on SG, I know it's summer, but I dislike the fact that no one seems to want to discuss anything. I know that someone has to have an issue with my claim that BOC is a trash rock group, but on one is biting,... oh well
3, I know that I don't come across as Mr. Smiles all the time, but I do like to laugh and share the laughs with people so the funniest things I have encountered recently... well honestly Its been the Coupling DVDs and The Office DVDs, I can't think of much else that has made me laugh out loud more often and harder in a long time... check them out.
4, Watching a chunk of my FIght Club DVD and a comment on the Music board about the connection between NIN and Pere Ubu, along with seeing the sicking number of tabloids running stories about the Olsen Twins made me realize that people seem to sympathise with and want to sooth the pain of the pretty people. I've heard too many girls talk about the pain that Trent feels and how they would like to solve it with their bodies, but really did any one care about Pere Ubu's Peter L? what ever...
My last Fight Club thought was... Homework.... play along if you are interested.
Who's Joe Meek? (hint: He Died for Your Sins)
If you were to go looking for a copy of the song 'Radioactive Kid' by The Meteors where would you look? What style of music would it be
What TV show should get a full season one DVD release with all the bells and whistles and why?
For me it's Bruce Campbell's one season wonder The Adventures of Brisco Country Jr. which was just too far ahead of it's time, Why? It was fun, it had that spark of vision that so many others are missing
what flavor Ice Cream do you wish that you could pull from your local grocery stores freezer section that you can't?
Me: Black Licorice
that's it, stay cool, drink plenty of water and I'll type at you later

and for the record. i don't think there is such a thing as a "normal kid." everyone has their weirdness about them. and who really can define normal anyways?
my favorite school activity when i was 8 years old? hmmm hard to remember really. probably getting out of class to go play with the old mimeograph machine because supposedly i was "too smart" for the regular english and math class. so i got to sit in a room with a bunch of other dorks and do silly quizzes and puzzles and play with the office equipment.
as for disney - i love disney, but i don't like what eisner has done to it. the old disney with the classic movies and rides and no sequels (walt would roll over in his grave if he knew about cinderella 2 etc.) i remember going to disneyland and disney world as a kid and being enamored with tomorrowland.
the kinds of ice cream i'd like to pull from the grocer shelves - anything with nuts in it. i don't like nuts in my ice cream. it irritates me to no end when i read a description about an ice cream thats something like "coffee flavored ice cream with loads of fudge, creamy caramel, chocolate bits and hazelnuts." it all is so lovely and then blech. my favorite kind of ice cream is coffee flavored ice cream though. cold stone creamery has a great coffee ice cream which i like to mix oreos and heathbars into. mmmmmm.
i'm going to IKEA today - i can hardly stand the wait!
