Thee Ultra Bimboos
Bimboo Wizard
I really really wish I could recall when and where I first heard Thee Ultra Bimboos. I Suspect it was was on the Riot on the Rocks Vol. 1 comp, but it really isn't important, because I found them, and in a shot period of time their 2003 album Bimboo Wizard has become one of my all time favorites.
Thee Bimboos hail from Rock City Helsinki where they our rock every other girl band on the planet. They have better tunes, better lyrics, better hooks and better everything than a barrel full of the other over pimped girl groups making the rounds these days, and you all know whom I'm talking about.
Their sound is pure garage pop with a dose of punk fuzz. They have the drive and the energy of all great bands. You can't help but bob your head along with each tune and they have mastered the art of writing songs that fit togeather but don't play like variations of the same song.
On Bimboo Wizard they reign in the noise of Supermess and the Pop of 4 Fans Can't be Wrong to create listen-able and accessible album.
The lyrics are all sung in english, which is cool because they don't always get it exactly right, but it works. The non american pronunciations, and the occasional clumsy sounding lines are perfect and in no way distract from the enjoyment of the music.
This is one of those records where each listen brings a new favorite song. At first I couldn't get enough of 'Sparkles' and then 'Mars is Rising' and for the longest time 'Kallio Love' was the one song that just reached out and spoke to me,
Is there anything else I can say to get you to track down a copy of the CD? or find their music on line.... because if you haven't heard them you are missing out.
As of this writing this album is still only available in Finland,
