Holy crap does this new layout suck!
I'm sure people worked long and hard on it (the graphics do look really nice), but its hard to navigate and the placement of things is very counterproductive. I'll apologize ahead of time if you don't see me on all that much anymore and not leave many comments.
What I loved about the old layout is that it was mostly text driven and it wasn't that often you had to slow down. The pages also loaded fast, now to load up any page on SG takes just as long as loading up one of those annoying MySpace profiles with the enormous wallpaper picture circa 1998, some lame fratboy video that's not funny, with the latest Shakera (sp?) song playing in the background. Yeah, my computer is kind of slow, but its a chore to surf around the site.
Not only that, but I loved the old "bookmarks" feature. Just click on that one button in the top right hand corner of the screen and you can troll through everyone's blog updates in one go. All gone.
Now you have to go ...
Home -> Bookmarks -> scroll midway down the page -> keep clicking that right arrow over and over again -> it only shows the first four lines of the entry -> click the one you want to read -> start over again because you lost your place
And rather than click the update button in the top right hand corner to write these silly things, you now have to ...
Home -> Blogs -> Click the tiny new entry icon
Did I mention they force ads on you while you're going through the process? Did also I mention that in the settings they also set your preference to YES for spam mail?
They took away IRC chat too. You have to use this monstrosity of a GUI. Bummer.
Its not very conductive to creating a web community. Maybe that's the idea. Meh, it was fun while it lasted.
