Last night I went to a friend's going away party. He is being sent to Afghanistan next week. There I saw an old friend from high school. Her and me were pretty close friends and I havent seen her since my graduation (about two years ago). She is doing well, but she informed me that she is being sent to Iraq on December 1, which really upset me. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for women in the military if they choose to be, but I just dont like it.
I think I'm going to try and hang out with her a lot before she leaves. I'm planning on taking her out to dinner as much as possible, buy her stuff; that sort of thing. It's really the least I could do for a friend who is in the military, especially one being sent to Iraq.
So far about 7 of my friends from high school have been sent to Iraq. Luckily none have been wounded or killed. Even still, that's a number of friends that are placed in a VERY difficult situation.
Oh well, I'm done having a pity party.
