Lately, I haven't been feeling so hot. My mood has plummeted faster than the housing market in 2008 and I am finding it hard to get out of bed and go to work. (Side note: one of the wonderful things about being a stripper is that I make my own hours and if I don't show up for work I don't get fired. It's perfect work for those who have excellent self esteem yet suffer from acute mental illness...)
But today I got tattooed for much less than I should have paid by a friend who's looking to expand his portfolio in regards to portraits. It was wonderfully cathartic, to say the least.
I loved the feeling of the needles going into my skin. I adored the burning sensation.
In fact, it almost lulled me to sleep. I felt all the emotional pain I was feeling drift away with each line and shade colored into my skin.
For those of you not in the know, that's a portrait of an actress from the '20s, Louise Brooks. The Jazz Age is my favorite period of American history and I think it goes well with the Fitzgerald quote on the same arm. I'm thinking that eventually below Louise I would like to get the Edna St. Vincent Millay poem:
"My candle burns at both ends;
it won't last the night,
but ah my foes, and oh, my friends
it gives a lovely light!"
I read somewhere that she wrote it specifically about flappers, which would be apropos underneath the portrait of Louise.
Anyway, just thought I'd share the new ink!
Hopefully I'll feel better soon and give you a more proper update.
