So, having been sans internet for a bit I happened to miss some homework assignments. (You know, it feels weird typing 'homework assignment'. It makes me feel like I'm back in school. However, I digress...)
The assignment from last week asked us what our favorite TV shows were. Well, there's no contest there. My favorite show is 'The Venture Brothers'. I mean, I have the sheets for crying out loud. I've written academic style essays about why Dr. Girlfriend is the perfect feminist icon for my generation. I love the writing, the animation, and the satire of it all. I own every season on DVD and can watch each episode over and over again. I'm pretty sure it drives people around me nuts, as I like to watch an episode or two before I go to bed every night. (Though to be fair I'll switch it up with other cartoons like American Dad, The Simpsons, Family Guy, etc).
I just love cartoons, man. When I think about it, I can't tell you a single non cartoon television show that I like and currently follow. Cartoons enable me to escape into different universes that I am unable to do with live action television. The suspension of disbelief is much greater in cartoons as well. A lot of people don't understand why I like cartoons more. I'm often teased for it. But you know what? I don't give a shit.
And now onto this weeks assignment: my favorite scent.
Now, my sense of smell is probably my favorite, if I had to pick a favorite that is. Your sense of smell drives nostalgia. You smell a certain scent and you are immediately brought back to another time and place in your life. It's almost like you close your eyes and you're there again, in that particular past moment that you never thought you'd see again.
Your sense of smell makes you hungry, more excited for food.
Your sense of smell can arouse you or relax you. It can warn you of impending danger or when you need to change the cat box.
In short, the act of smelling something wonderful is a divine experience.
I have so many scents I'm fond of, but my favorite is definitely lavender. I love the sweet, yet earthy quality of it. I love the way it calms me. However, I'm picky when it comes to my lavender as it can easily be misinterpreted and fucked up. Bad lavender reeks of sad old women. But good lavender is utterly sublime. Several years ago, I had a lavender plant in my garden. I'd go out every day and pick a few sprigs and just hold them to my nose for several minutes, until it seemed the scent had be sucked from them. I was devastated when it died, but I wasn't surprised. I wasn't born with a green thumb.
When I have extra money, I spoil myself and buy Dr. Bronners lavender soap. I'll spend more time in the shower than I normally do just so I can smell it mixed in with the steam of the hot water. It feels so delicious.
I'm still on the look out for the perfect lavender scented lotion that is affordable. You see, I'm made of many things. Money is not one of them.
Anyway, have some pictures because I feel like it.
My butt. Because hell yeah.
