So this weeks blog topic (assignment if you will) is, 'your hidden talent'.
Now, for some people in my life my 'hidden' talent is not so hidden, but it occurred to me that the vast majority of you here don't know that I can sing. I majored in music composition in college, but when I was in high school I was training to go to Julliard for opera.
In short, I can sing opera. Or I used to, anyway. Training your voice to do that takes many years and I have lost much of my training, but there are still some arias I can sing the dickens out of and when the moon is right I can sing just about anything. In fact, I dare you all to a karaoke challenge of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' (spoilers: I'll win!)
It's a bit rusty, but I recorded one verse of the famous 'Musetta's Waltz' from Puccinis 'La Boheme' so that you might hear an inkling of what I used to sound like back when I was in my prime.
Again, be kind, for I am a wee bit out of practice. Not to mention all the abuse I put myself through in my early twenties and beyond. I longed so much to sound like Janis Joplin and Courtney Love. Alas, it never happened. All the whiskey in Ireland couldn't subdue my voice enough. I'm like a canary in some rotten coal mine.
