Hey guys,
So I had this brilliant idea, right? (well, not really. It's not exactly creative but it would be pretty damn fun). Most of us (us being friends of mine, friends of friends and. . .I'll stop babbling now) are still too young to have our own 'families', hence no family vacations for us for the last couple of years and probably the next couple of years to follow. Seeings how, for most of us at this point in our life, our friends are more or less our family, I think it'd be pretty damn spiffy to have a big group vacation.
Nothing fancy, nothing high budget: just a couple days out in Gros mourne, kicking it in the sun and swimming in the ocean, roasting mallows over a fire and all that jazz. Maybe, if our budgets would allow it, rent a couple sea-doos on our way out and see if we can throw each other off them by taking turns too sharp ^_^
I understand that a lot of people probably won't be able to do this, either because work won't allow you the time off, or you already have a vacation planned, or your bank account is just too tight to allow even a low-cost vacation. So I'm sending this e-mail out (and posting it on suicidegirls and livejournal) to see if there are enough people free and interested to get this together. Feel free to send this e-mail on to friends of yours or people whose e-mail I just didn't happen to have. All are welcome. Girlfriends, boyfriends, work friends. . .again, I'll stop babblling.
To the point: Like I said, this is just an initial e-mail to see if the interest is even there for me to organize this thing. But, if I get even a small group of definate names back, I'll start figuring out the tents and cars situation. For now, here's the rough idea:
I'm moving (just two blocks away from where I am now) around the 23rd of July. I'm going to be driving back into Corner Brook with my parents after I do. The plan would be to get a couple cars and tents together (I know a couple of us have tents [I have two for sure] and as for cars. . .a few of us do, I'm not one of them. Depending on who might be going, we could look into renting a van, splitting the cost between all of us [save those who may already be donating a vehicle]. Gas would be an even split all around as well. So, the group would head out of St. John's and into Corner Brook on the morning or afternoon of July 27th. We'd crash at my parents place for the night (BBQ all around, then snoozing inside for a small group, or outside in the tents if it's a larger one). The morning of the 28th we'd head out to Gros Mourne, and this is when we might stop to do the sea-doo thing. We'd hike into whatever site we agreed on and set up tent for the night. Next morning maybe head out to a different site (or just fuck around at a couple different ones) and set up for the second night. Next morning (the 30th now) we'd head back into St.John's. And hell, if we get in at a decent time and everyone's not too fucking knackered, housewarming party at my place that everyone (including anyone that couldn't make it out to the west coast) is invited to.
NONE of this is set in stone. There's the possibility of just spending the one night outdoors, moving the dates a little, etc, though it will have to be sometime around these dates, at least for me. All said and done, with the rough plan above you'd be looking at needing four days off;
Thurs. July 27 - depart St. John's (roadtrip!), arrive in Corner Brook, spend night there.
Fri. July 28 - Drive out to Gros Mourne, spend night.
Sat. July 29 - Fuck around in the outdoors, spend night.
Sun. July 30 - Depart Gros Mourne, arrive in St. John's, possible housewarming at 58 Prescott.
So that's about it for now. I'd love if everyone could please reply to me as soon as they can with a response. you know, "That sounds fucking brilliant, let's do it!", "That sounds great but I can only get three days off", "I'd love to but there's no way I can", "You're a fucking nutter, take a plane and sit on a beach like the normal peoples do" "I hate trees", whatever.
Thanks guys, hope to hear from you soon and I hope everyone's having a great summer, whatever their plans.
Cheers, - Krys
