I want to start out by offering my condolences to the families affected by monday's shootings. Its sad that someone thinks him self judge, jury and executioner to 32 people. My thoughts go out to you.
I also want to shake my finger and shame on those who are using this tradgedy as a soapbox to promote your own ignorant ways and thoughts. I wasnt going to say anything about this whole situation until I read THIS article on MSNBC.com. That lawyer needs to shut his mouth and be disbarred if you ask me. How dare he use the deaths of 32 people as a platform to shout his message. Take a good look at the general kind of people that play video games. Most of them (me included) couldnt run a block without gasping for breath. Rotund might be a good discription. And the guy says that "He might have killed somebody but he wouldn't have killed 32 if he hadn't rehearsed it and trained himself like a warrior on virtual reality. It can't be done. It just doesn't happen." So what exactly is this guy admitting? That you can infact LEARN from video games? or that video games are the only way to learn how to shoot a weapon? Shooting ranges are now obsolete? cause it is so similar, holding a gun and holding a controller. let me tell you. (sarcasm. honest) or is he degrading our military? that the only way they could learn to do what they do overseas is through video games? no need for training and live fire exersises because, hey we can just plug in our video game and become navy seals and go kill insurgents in iraq. shit if that were the case dont you think the army would have people on xbox live, recruiting halo players? or counter strike players? video games are not the problem. Nor GUNS. The people that are pushing harder gun laws jumped all over this tradgedy and need to be shamed as well. The only HARDER gun law we need is background checks. He shouldnt have even been able to buy the guns, because of the involuntary admission to a mental health facility. THAT should be a red flag waiving all over the place. But think of this. Had the law allow those with a concealed weapons licence, to carry on campus, how long would he have gone on? and not just in this case. think of a bank robbery. what if the teller pulled a gun on the robber? or any number of other scenarios. I read somewhere that the majority of modern gun crimes were stopped by someone with a concealed weapon. Look at the mall shooting in salt lake last year. an off duty police officer that was packing was the one that got the first shots BACK at the guy shooting. All i am saying is that they need to stop blaming everything but what needs to be blamed. The guy was off his rocker. there were plenty of warning signs. People just needed to pay more attention to it. And in my opinion, the NEWS. go on. watch the news one night. compair the ratio of good stories to bad. then of the bad, sad depressing stories, how many of those are about violent crime? how many are about people dieing? this constant barrage of bad news just doesnt do good things for people. all those REAL people dieing on the news every night bothers me alot more than seeing pixels and polygons get shot up on a video game.
