In a Motel 6 near LAX it’s a quick lesson in living space, air quality and the difficulty of a restrictive diet. For what seemed like hundreds of miles it was one shop after another, some open, some out of business, and what mostly felt like Thai restaurants – which, thankfully has many options for an eater like me. My sister, my girlfriend and I

Ah, The city of Quartz and the Inland Empire...

A Wedding Story at Moon Mountain Retreat,

"You know man, in high school, I was intimidated by you," I said. "When we started hanging out, I thought you were super rich or something. I mean, we didn't hang out much, but still."

Kristopher laughed and commented on how we had both grown and changed since those days. I could see it. We had not talked since high school, so I was

There and Back Again:

When my dad was alive, I used to run through damp fields, exploring a wide-open property in the backwoods of Poulsbo, Washington. Hills dove up and down all the way to what felt like the edge of the West Coast, overlooking rugged and murky waters. Most days on the shoreline it was overcast and the beach remained a muddy brown, often covered in black sand-dollars

Spring Came Upon Us:

My childhood in Colorado consisted of bouncing between Denver-suburb towns Westminster and Arvada as I struggled to find continuity in my schooling and myself.

My friends mixed as I spent elementary and part of middle school in Westminster then moved to Arvada for middle school and high school. Even my high school years had a hard time figuring themselves out, which was symbolic of my

As the first month in SF rolled on, we started to explore. We had to stop eating out, which had become regular fare in Denver. Whole Foods was nearby. So was Trader Joe's - a new market delicacy to us with our gluten-free diet. Trying to manage a gluten-free diet through Whole Foods in SF without a job put me quickly on the welfare path

SF is not the place to live on no money. Hell, even in a decent job I can't afford to move back if I wanted to. My BF and I were forced to move to Oakland while in school. And Oakland is rapidly going up in price. Google and Twitter, and Facebook have pushed the prices up in the Bay Area. There are just almost no options, even if you want to live in a house renting rooms from strangers, you'll still be paying about a grand a month. If you thought the tenderloin was shady, I don't actually recommend living in most places in Oakland, though there are a few better neighborhoods. If you are really looking for places to afford you kind of have to move to the East Bay or the South Bay. Berkeley is quite a lovely place to live in. It has a culture all it's own and a lot of artists. If you can find a place, I'd try there, you can always bus or BART into the city. I moved to Alameda, which was affordable and safe, but if you don't have a car, you can kiss late night's out goodbye. Good luck finding a place!

And, oh Hey, I'm also from Colorado. If you wanna talk about transitioning to life in SF at all, anytime.

Touching Down in San Francisco:

March in San Francisco was rainy. I heard days were a mixture of rain and wind off the Bay but had no idea what to expect in terms of coldness. Coming from Colorado, though, right as the snow was at an end, we were prepared with plenty of clothing. I stocked up on cheap H&M garments. Any given day I was wearing the same
