Conflict facilitates existence
Why are we able to call a box solid, or square, or cubic for that matter. Why can we call it the color it is or give it a size? Why do such adjectives and descriptions exist? They exist because they're constantly in conflict with something else. There has to be something different for anything to exist. If everything was red, we wouldn't have a word for red. It wouldn't be redundant to have a word for something that all things are. We define things not by what they are, but what else there is to compare it to, what it's different from, what it's in conflict with. The same holds true for people. We need some kind of conflict or difference in our life to define it. From wars to relationships it's in our nature to keep comparing ourselves to everything in hopes of finding some difference to define ourselves by.
