when did getting online become such a chore? i guess having to connect the modem every time contributed to the whole experience getting old. plus i've had fuck all to do at work lately, so i've been on from there all the time, which makes getting online again at home that much less appealing. this ain't exactly the type o' place i can really visit...

It was a routine play for Clint Malarchuk. St. Louis right winger Steve Tuttle was charging toward the Buffalo Sabres' goalie with defenseman Uwe Krupp closing in from behind.
As the puck flashed through the crease, Krupp grabbed Tuttle and Tuttle's leg kicked into the air, his skate blade slicing through the exposed flesh under Malarchuk's mask.
Nearly 14 years later, Malarchuk remembers his first...

I can only imagine what would happen if someone was to die on a playing field. The media is already in freak-out mode about unusual sports occurrences. We've had our brushes with immediate death on the field (Ray Chapman dying some days later; Darryl Stingley's paralysis; this one) and with athletes getting so much bigger/ stronger I can only think it'll sadly happen some day.

Isn't that something we ALL crave? I think anytime the people you're friends with start doing "grown-up" things before you it makes you feel old. Don't worry about it though. You're only old to the pimply losers wearing the Slipknot shirts. Besides isn't there a song that says something about young at heart? If it's in a song it's GOTTA be true.
Ok, so i was pulling everyone's leg. there was nothing big coming up for y'all to watch for, i was deliberately wasting your time.
it looks like i'm going to have to find a new place in the next few months. the rent here is going up and i won't be able to afford it. what's really shitty is that in looking today i discovered...

There seems to be a recurring theme in my life of cancelled plans. Whenever I make plans with someone -- doesn't matter who they are or what the plans are -- something invariably comes up which causes them to fall through. Naturally, this happens more the higher my hopes are. Car breakdowns, lack of funds, sudden emergencies,...

recent forays back into the world of oil painting have revealed an interesting phenomenon. while my experience with oils is limited, i've found that i have lost none of my ability to manipulate the paint as i wish. blending, shading, etc. have not been a problem.

I'm no art expert...but maybe a few shots at copying things for a while will bring about the basic skills again.
Start with simple cartooning, then work in details?
I don't mean to bash Enemy at the Gates or anything; I just think it progressively gets less about truth/realism and more about movie-ness as it goes on.
Was watching some of Jacob's Ladder on TV a couple weeks back. I think it was on Bravo...anyway, way too many commercial breaks or I would've watched the whole thing...very interesting movie, and that rarest of things-- a unique movie. Oh, I've seen the whole thing, btw, years ago, on video...I'm kinda shocked that Bravo has so many fuckin commercials nowadays, if it was indeed them.

a day home from work = a day listening to music. spent some quality time with some stuff i haven't really gotten much chance to listen to yet. some random thoughts on 'em.
Cat Power, You Are Free -- someone at work gave me a copy of this yesterday. excellent stuff, it was nice to hear some rather upbeat numbers on this one.

I love listening to old albums that have sat on the shelves for a while. It really helps you listen to them with fresh ears again.
Bakerton group set- schmooze the hell out of First Ave, i knew way to many people there, so i made the rounds, my my tatoo artist and peicer, bunch of SG member who had never seen clutch, bunch of people who knew me but i did know them (i would like to say this being the first time i have seen the bakerton group, this should be the only way clutch should be aloud to tour, when the play here they alway got some of the lamest act opening, or band that don't even fit their style, and the place is usely pretty dead till Clutch hits the stage, but this time it was packed to the gill right off the bat)
first set- they just tore the place a new asshole, they knew they hadn't been here in a while so they came out swinging
second set- since they just tore us a new one, they sat us down on a hemroid doughnut with some straight up groove, and ruduced the place to a drunken swager, and laid it down thick. as the set was heading to a close they picked up the tempo again to close it out.
best show i've seen in a long time
