I'm not the sort of person that can't handle a lot of negativity in my environment. When you battle depression, it's easy to get locked into that downward spiral - too much empathy for others leads to a lot of heartache.
Being around people that provide a steady flow of complaints but seldom support or positivity is just no longer an option in my life. Negativity tends to perpetuate itself. I've had more than enough of my share.

i am full of negative people too. and even when they are not exactly negative but a kind of crazy weirdness inside them, i am full of them too. i choose for healthy people: people who are kind, supportive, sharing, loyal. people with good vibes, with love to share <3

Real friends care deeply about how you feel and if they confide in you about their troubles it will not involve treating you as a sounding board or a metaphorical toilet. A conversation is a two way street. You can withdraw politely or tell them off if you want to but anyone who treats you callously has to be pretty messed up as I see it. Let me remind you that depression can be overcome and is not a life sentence. While there may sometimes be a physiological component, it's still an acquired skill to get rid of it so don't accept any deterministic theories. 😍
