You know, the last few weeks I've had these moments when I really THINK about Christmas, not from a religious standpoint, but from a sociological and historical perspective. I know dribs and drabs of surprising but true trivia, but I've never really studied it. Things like this are never as simple as they seem, and I would like to read up on the development of Christmas, how it was determined by the church, how it was "conveniently" merged with the Pagan/Wiccan tradition of Yule, and so on.
So when I sing these Xmas carol lyrics, what are they really meaning? What was the origin?
All of our traditions - where did they come from?
And so on....
I seem to from year to year vascillate between getting caught up in the Decorating/Shopping Holiday Spirit and then going on philosophical. And that's ok.
