I feel for you but don't sweat the herpes too much - it's not as bad as you think!!
I don't have it but wouldn't hesitate to date or sleep with someone if they did. Why?
1) You can only spread it when you have a physical outbreak
2) More than 1 in 3 people in North America have it. (not sure about UK)
3) The outbreaks only last a couple of days and there are treatments to help relieve/reduce the severity of the symptoms.
The best way to reduce outbreaks is to take care of yourself (eat well, sleep well, exercise and reduce stress).
Several of my friends have it and are open about it. 2 of the girls I used to date had it and they just came out and told me before we had sex. We were closer and more open about everything because of it.
