so, uh, happy Patriot Day or some bullshit like that.
i have to say i'm just plain offended they made September 11th a holiday. the 11th wasn't the day everyone came together as a nation, so it's wrong to name a day after patriotism on that date. September 11th was the day we declared war on a nonentity called terrorism and soon after bombed a nation whose government no only didn't have the terrorist we were after, they hadn't done anything to us to need bombed.
i don't, in any way, condone the killing of innocents, and to an extent, the killing of the guilty either. however, i think maybe today would be better labeled as Ignorance Day. the reason men flew planes into buildings and killed thousands was to make a statement, oft ignored by the government after the other "minor" (in relation to the 9/11 attack) attacks, and they decided to scream louder to be heard. only the people who were meant to hear ignored the message in its entirety and, in fact, went even further into the behavior and national policy that the men who orchestrated the attack abhor so much: nation building, encroaching on other cultures with egocentric and theocentric reasoning and foreign policy, and worst of all, a false sense of neoimperialistic manifest destiny.
today is Ignorance Day because the stupid people of this great country fell prey to the lies the media told and the lies the government has told about how we, as a nation, conduct our business abroad.
there should be no more sugar coating the truth. ignorance may seem blissful, but ignorance is no excuse for things going as far downhill as they have so far. our army and our government make shady deals with shady individuals quite frequently and when those shady deals backfire, they step up like heroes "defending out freedom" from the evils that they themselves wrought. if they have a resource they want, be it manpower, oil, whatever, they occupy a country in the name of securing democracy, all while securing contracts for corporations whose friends and ex-CEOs are now in the top levels of the government. the fighting in iraq to date and the deaths of over a thousand US troops could have been averted had they not tried to encroach on islamic society.
i'm so tired of people everywhere i go with their little flag stickers and those god damned ribbon stickers saying "god bless america" and "support our troops." it's all bullshit. patriotism is loving your NATION not loving your GOVERNMENT. no army invaded american soil. terrorist attacks are to get attention, not start a war. and now that a war is happening, we have no enemy to fight, so we atttack anyone who doesn't bend to our national will. that's why they're fighting al-sadr. his followers refuse the western way of life and are willing to fight and to die to live the way they want to, and we can't handle that so we bomb them and shoot at them and attack them on their holy ground. if our army was fighting and holed up in a church i know the christian world would be upset at bringing an attack on holy ground, so why attack them on theirs? shouldnt we be taking the high road?
it's morning in america and the sky is red with the blood of innocents. remember the old saying, "red sky at morning, sailor take warning?" our own actions and failure to see why the world is growing to hate us as a nation and as a people will be our undoing. if we stop things like allowing the school of the americas to exist and conducting black ops and having EIGHT (count 'em) intelligence agencies - all of whom failed utterly to stop a terrorist attack they should have seen coming from far away i might add - and letting corporations and special interest groups control the media, the legislature and the economy, things can only get better. fewer countries and religious groups will hate us and when corporations stop sending all their work overseas, the dismal job situation here will improve as well.
my point is, everything that has happened up to this point in our history has been out own fault and something needs to be done about it. i'm not saying who to vote for because neither major candidate is really worth a shit, but i am saying everybody needs to take a MUCH wider interest in the goings on in government and the way our nation conducts its business in the world, because if nobody does, things will go straight to hell (worse than they have so far) and soon there may not be a land of the free where people can be so ignorant of the rest of the world.
please, pay attention to what is happening around you. failure to do so may undo what anyone and everyone who has fought and/or died to protect...
