This is a photo of one of my favorite things:

As all of you know, its an electronic reading device. This particular one is loaded with a great deal of my favorite literature and some fun, light reading as well. I still get most of my books from the library. Looking back over the past six months, Ive read an average of over three per week I dont need or want to own them all.
My Kindle has nearly a GB of individual books and collected works a small library. I have it with me nearly always. Some of my favorite places to read are Bryant Park in New York, the high hill youve seen a photo of in Pootatuck Forest, and (of course) my hammock. The Kindle enables me to always have along not just one book but many; I can read the New York Times outside on most mornings, even the windiest ones.
Heres another photo say hello to my cat, Rhiannon. Yes, she was named after the Stevie Nicks song.

Ive been mired in a deep depression for the past couple of days. My general outlook tends towards slight melancholia (I know, thats an oxymoron) liberally seasoned with wry humor, liberal joy and periodic euphoria.
I am bipolar, but you already knew or guessed that. Im very glad that I am. Some of my best and deepest thoughts occur during the lows; some of the greatest periods of creativity come during the highs. The condition was considerably worse when I was much younger.
Ive survived suicide attempts and suicidal behavior. Ive lived through sickness, injury, heartache and even near-death. I was trapped in a blizzard once and found frozen in my car. It was only when, several hours later, they came to remove my carcass that an astute Connecticut State Trooper detected a subtle glimmer of life.
Given my current state of mind, this is a perfect time for me to share this with all of you. While I will admit to regret over friends lost and opportunities missed looking back over my life, I honestly wouldnt change a thing. I am generally very happy and content with it all, and pleased with this current stage in my journey.
I just want you to understand why, periodically, you may not see me around for a day or so. I dont want anyone to think that Im ignoring them, or don't wish to interract with them. I really care about my friends here and appreciate your friendship. I love all of your blogs and enjoy all of your comments. I know that it may sound like a clich, but you guys truly are the best.
Ill do my best to begin sharing more of myself, my life and my thoughts.
And now for something completely different:
When Cats Get Stoned and Listen to Techno
Unless you share my sense of humor, youll think that this is silly or stupid and turn away in a matter of seconds, shaking your head as you go. I think that its clever, and I still laugh every time I visit it

how did every thing go
maybe the 'kindle' won't seem so strange. I'll keep it
in mind for when I'm more flush.
Hearing lots of wood ducks in the swamp. A few weeks
back I saw a fox walking along the tree line. The bird-feeders
are seeing lots of visitors.
Finally!
from storage, in the morning.
