"Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra. Shaka, when the walls fell."

I was reminded of this episode when researching the implications of my resected duodenum, I came across a hilarious homonym across English and Dutch:

# In biology, a bolus is any kind of ball-shaped organic structure of an organism or of its discharged substances.

* The term is also used for any fairly large quantity of matter, usually food, making its way through the digestive tract. In some technical domains it is used to describe the solid results of a bowel movement.

# A bolus is also a pastry of the Netherlands. There are two recipes. One is a Jewish pastry from Amsterdam and surroundings with ginger and/or almonds ('bole'). The other recipe is from the province Zeeland: a sweet sticky bun rolled and shaped in the form of a shell or turban, and covered with cinnamon and brown caramelized sugar.

Mmmm... Bolus!

I suppose that it is at this juncture that I have unintentionally revealed exactly how much of a dork I am: while researching biology, I was thoroughly amused by a cross-language homonym, and subsequently reminded of a Star Trek episode! shocked

In other news... SCORE! Yesterday, I was helping reorganize the rec room on campus when we discovered a box of textbooks left forsaken in one of the closets. My boss told me that I could keep whichever ones I wanted, so I snagged:

Modern Database Management (7th Edition) (Hardcover)
Assembly Language for Intel-Based Computers (4th Edition) (Paperback)
and
Introduction to the Design and Analysis of Algorithms (2nd Edition) (Paperback)

Not too bad for helping to clean out a couple of closets and moving a few pool tables around. Definately enough reading to keep me busy for some time in addition to the multitude of projects which I can never seem to find the time to finish because I'm constantly beginning new ones. Grr.

A couple of shows coming up that I am very much looking forward to: Necrophagist, Cannibal Corpse and Dying Fetus on the 12th in New Haven, CT, and later that week, Hypocrisy, Suffocation and Decapitated at the Palladium in Worcester. Anyone else going to be heading out to either of these?

Man, I love TNG (I don't care what rollerdisco says)!!! I might have trouble eating something that shares a name with excrement, though.

Damn, that's a lot of money in books to just leave sitting in a closet! Congrats on the find! Sucks about the class scheduling, though. Sounds about par for the course as far as "higher education" goes... Although, I watched "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" last night. Won't spoil it in case you haven't read/seen it, but there's a neat trick about taking more classes than you have time for. (Damn, those Dementors are fuckin' creepy, too!)

I'm definitely looking forward to those shows, as well. It's gonna' be a good month for metal! Hopefully, I'll get inspired; I just haven't been itching to play, lately. Wish I could crank it up in my apartment, but I'd just as soon not get us evicted. Could use some band members, as well.

Well, it's not exactly current, but there's some classical guitar stuff here. Check out La Cancin del Emperador and the excerpt from Leere. The former is my transcription from the original vihuela tablature and the latter was a piece I premiered, written by a friend of mine.

No worries on the Trogdor vocals. Really, whenever you get the chance. It's supposed to be fun, not one more damn thing to worry about. biggrin (Hell, recording that was my procrastination!) Hope everything is alright with you, though.
